Anybody ever tried a 59/Jazz set?

I'm rounding up the parts & pieces needed to replace the Schecter PT I stupidly sold a couple years ago. I went back and forth on that guitar, but it was always either a 59 set, or C5/59. Sometimes I wanted the extra output of the C5, but the 59s played so well together, I usually went with those. That guitar had just two volume controls, and I loved the way the 59s mix in the middle position. Through it all, the 59N has always been my go-to neck pickup, to the point that I have very little experience with anything else.

I just grabbed a 4-wire 59B off the Trading Post (thanks, appar111), and just realized I have a Jazz neck sitting at home that I've never put in a guitar. Why doesn't anyone ever mention a 59/Jazz set? Is there something fundamentally flawed with that setup, or are they a workable pair?

Should I just start looking for a used 59N, or is the 59/Jazz worth a try?

Absolutely worth a try. I've always thought of the whole 59/JB/Jazz/etc., family as pups that dance around the old "PAF" character. They're like PAF's with their own particular BMT "tweak". Each one suits it's own guitar/player formula. I can't see how you could go wrong. If it doesn't work, there will always be someone in the Trading Post to swap for the "right" one. ;)

Absolutely. They go together well. Sometimes the 59n can be too bass heavy and boomy. The Jazz is the obvious cure in that situation.

OTOH, I've always liked the fat, woofy sound of the 59N, though in this case it will be somewhat tempered by the Fender scale length, Tele bridge, and maple neck,

Even better is a 59/jazz hybrid. These seem to cancel out each others weak spots. Great in the neck.

I had a set in an alder/maple superstrat. They worked reasonably well together but I found the Jazz neck a bit too boring for the lack of a better word. Maybe it was the guitar.

I had a 59b/jazz combo in my guitar for a brief period. I use the middle position (both pups together) for 90% of my playing (r&b, clean tone), and I didn't like the combo together all that much. In my guitar, the Jazz was maybe a little too overpowering or something...they just didn't balance all that well together.

I switched out the jazz for the 59n with an a4 mag, and that worked really well. I eventually put an a4 in the bridge 59 as well, and I'm extremely happy with that pairing. They match up well and have a great vintage clean tone.

My guitar is a solid korina, Gibson scale, set neck guitar. I'd say it's similar to an SG, sonically not the same as your guitar, just FYI.

Good luck!
