Well, the question pretty much sums it up: Anybody got schematics/guides for Valve Jr. mods as applicable to EPI VALVE SPECIAL?

Ideally something to brighten it up a bit. Mods adding another tube to the gainstage somehow and boosting wattage are very welcome.

PS no speaker mods needed. Already running it through a 4x12 with Celestion Greenbacks

For starters, bypass ALL that SS garbage...
Connect R17 to C6. That will put the preamp into the power amp.
See what you think of that.

C1 and C9.
These CAN make for mud.
I would knock them down (maybe one at a time) to 4.7uF/25volts.

Do not know why Epi was addicted to all those series resistors.
Try to just jumper R12 and R13. If not, at least cut them in half.

I guess you could also jumper R17, and run the pot straight into C6 as well.

Put a "bright cap" across VR1. That is the Volume/Gain Pot. Just like you would in a Fender amp.
You can reduce R13 and bridge it with a bright cap as well. 100pF will probably work for both of those "bright caps".

Do not instigate this crap all at once. Go slow and see what yo hear.

It may be easier for you to just follow a schem for the Matchless Lightning. THAT is what they have perverted anyway.
