Anybody have some change they can spare???

Re: Anybody have some change they can spare???

Now you guys know...I'm telling you, I plugged in to one Trainwreck, one time...the asking price was $35000.00...I laughed and thought "Let's see what kind of amp you get for 35 large!". DAMN...I was amazed at what it could really do...simple words can not describe this amp! Ken Fisher has had health problems the past several years and there are really only a few "Wrecks" out there...as you noticed...they have names...he names every one of them and puts more time into one amp that some companys put into an entire year of building amps... A Trainwreck is one thing I would have to have...if I ever won the lottery or something crazy like that, because as crazy as it sounds...That amp is worth every penny!!!

1. Ridiculous pricing.
2. Bubinga is a gorgeous wood (I've seen it on loudspeakers), and Trainwrecks have monster tone.
3. See #1 :D

I agree with TGWIF... I'd only buy that if I won the lottery and had an insane amount of cash. othotherwise i couldnt touch it

Re: Anybody have some change they can spare???

Thats crazy no ones gonna pay that much for an amp.

If that guy knocks one zero off the price he'll probably sell it but for now he's just wasting his time.

Re: Anybody have some change they can spare???

I have never played through a Trainwreck...or a Dumble. I'd love to though! I think those amps might be worth what people charge for them. I mean, a Stradovarius violin goes for alot more than that and it's made of the same wood as other fiddles worth far less.

You're paying for the artistry and talent of the man who made it.

And the tone that cannot be had from an amp built by anyone else.

I'd never pay that kind of money for a piece of music gear though...even if it is worth it.

I guess they know their market well, and what it will bear for their products in order to continue making products at a certain level.
In my shop we have about at LEAST 8 pr of loudspeakers on display that are $10,000 or more per pair, with one pair at $80,000/pr. How many pair of these do we well a year?

We average about 1pr of each of these speakers per week, typically going into systems averaging over $40,000 ... so, the market exists, for those who have the money!

Re: Anybody have some change they can spare???

I'd like to borrow it, take it to an amp builder, and have them build an EXACT recreation of it, down to the smallest resistor. Then, own the same thing for $2000, and use the rest of the money........oh wait, there is no REST of the money. LOL

Re: Anybody have some change they can spare???

thats just silly. you would have to be a real anally retentive tonehound for one of those. if i can be happy with a matamp green at one 20th of the price... then surley this cant be much better? although i havent heard it...

LOL! If only it was that easy. Ken fine tunes those amps like Stradavarious fine tuned his violins. (How do you spell that guy's name anyway!?!) The thing is: an amp is the sum of all of the parts and due to differences in the specs of each part (due to accepted tolerances) an amp cannot really be made from 100% identical parts...even if you measure every part and attempt to use parts that measure the same. So what you pay for is Ken tweaking each amp to his own idea of tonal perfection. It's an art. Lew
