Anybody scoop thier mids?

I mean, I know we all use Duncan's here, but there is only so much clarity the pickups' gonna give.

I also am not saying scooped mids are wrong, but I was just wondering how many of us dude's scoop mids out.

I don't by the way. Happy heaping helping o' unused scoop :).

Re: Anybody scoop thier mids?

I have my "treble" at like 3:15, bass at 1:30 and mids at 11:30. I guess that's scooped? I also have the "contour" cranked way up (same as the bass) because I like it like that...gives me a good tight sound and contour adds its own mids and stuff.

Re: Anybody scoop thier mids?

Mids at 8/12, Bass at 7/12, and trebel at 4/12
Gives me a thicker sound thats not so bright.

Re: Anybody scoop thier mids?

I'm a bedroom player, and I still like the sound of dimed mids. I like them with just enough bass and just enough treble.

Re: Anybody scoop thier mids?

too invasive.......try sit ups and crunches.......or maybe 10 minutes a day on the Ab Lounge:fingersx:But serioulsy, Ladies and Germs....i have 4 amps and only one of them even has a mid control, so i guess my answer would be a resounding NO!!!!!!

Re: Anybody scoop thier mids?

Scooping the mids makes for a tough to play amplifier, IMO. It just feels better under my fingers with the mids there.

Re: Anybody scoop thier mids?

I have it at bass 6 mids 11.5 treble 9, I really believe that the tone, that violin beauty sound is in how your fingers respond to your amps kicked up mids. If you don't like violin analogy think of a flute or a soprano if you are in to stuff where that's how leads should sound and rythm should be precise and pronounced then its only mids. Yours truly, currently bedroom player.

I do the exact opposite (crank the mids) because I prefer to hear the guitar and not a bag of angry bumblebees ;)

Re: Anybody scoop thier mids?

I scoop my treble's.

Bass - 7, Mids - 7, trebs - 0.

Re: Anybody scoop thier mids?

I usually run something like
Treble - 5 or 6
Mid - 6
Bass - 8

But the bridge pickups in my guitars aren't particuarly dark, so - (PAF7 and GFS Fat PAF)

It's not 'scooped' sounding, it's got a nice crunch :bigthumb:

Re: Anybody scoop thier mids?

8-9/10 on my mid control. I don't like scooped mids. Bass usually pretty high up since i somehow tend to use brighter pickups and need a bit of compensating. treble is usally about neutral or a bit above.

Re: Anybody scoop thier mids?

Gimme my mids!! Gotta have mids. Got mids? LOL. The lowest mine go is 4 (11 o'clock). It's still plenty because my pickups have lots of mids. Bass anywhere between 6 and 8 (1 and 3 o'clock) now and Treble at 6, Presence between 2 and 4 (9 and 11 o'clock).

Re: Anybody scoop thier mids?

with a couple of my amps, i actually "scoop" the bass and turn up the treble when i am using my R9. It is very resonant and a couple of my amps are loaded with Celestion G12H30 Hetritage 55hz speakers, so they can get a little bassy.

Re: Anybody scoop thier mids?

What I do is set the presence fairly high, be CAREFUL with the treble so it doesn't get piercing at high volumes, and set the mids at 12' or something like that. Not much bass. I feel I cut better through the mix like that, without torturing everyone's ears. Those fat, broad tones usually get lost (as much as they are cool...).

So I don't scoop my mids, but I don't crank them either. The vocalist would probably start to complain! :laugh2:

I prefer a thinner, cutting tone that will jump right out. :)
