How's the 2 and 4 notch positions?

I am converting my Strat to HSS with a new pickguard, and I'm wondering if I should just bump the JB Jr. to the middle position instead of selling it.

Can you still get notch tones, namely the neck and mid notch? I have had single sized buckers in my Strat for a while and had OK luck with notch tones.

Personally, I don't see the point in a high gain pickup in the middle of a three pickup guitar. You'll likely use the bridge or neck 90% of the time.
For nicer notch tones a true single coil like an SSL-1 would be much better IMO and it will offer a different tonal option to whatever you have in bridge and neck.

HSS/HSH is my favourite config in a guitar, but the middle has to be a genuine single coil or it's a waste of time.

I've got a JBJr in an S-S-S setup, but it's in the neck. Never thought about using it in the middle.

Hmmmm. Might have to do some swappin around when I get home in the morning :D

... doesn't Duncan make something like a "Quackbucker" i.e., a single coil-sized pup designed specifically for that effect? Never tried or even heard one myself, but wouldn't that sound better in the middle position than a JB.Jr. would?

Not to hijack your thread, but I'm also looking for a single-coiled sized humb. that's got a bright, spank-y/quack-y sound to put in the middle position of my H-S-S Brazen Eternity Strat. I was thinking of putting a Quackbucker, or even a Twangbucker (the one with the steel/copper plate) in there, but perhaps that'd be a little too much twang and high end for that spot... :dot:

Re: Anybody use a JB Jr. in the MIDDLE position? How's the 2 and 4?

I think you mean the Duckbucker?

And I'm guessing I6 wants to stick with stuff he's got on-hand, since you can't email pickups

And in what seems to be a running gag around here, my JBJr is defective in some way. I'm getting great tone out of it when the R+W are on the hot, but I get squat when the black is hot. So either I buggered it (possible, since it was working fine before) or there was a failed suicide attempt (likely a pact between it, the Hot Rails, and the SSL1, which are also dead).
