Re: Anybody using a Computer for Effects/modelling?

The POD HD is much better than POD Farm. I had the opportinuty to borrow an HD500 for a week. Some of the stock patches were very good, imo.

Overall quality is very similar to guitar rig 5, however for strictly computer based modelling application, Id prefer guitar rig for the cab flexibility.

Re: Anybody using a Computer for Effects/modelling?

I used Guitar Rig in the past but had issues with it constantly crashing so I dumped it.

These days I use AmpliTube on my iPhone with several different amp models. I have a few of the stock ones and recently added the Slash amps and the Soldano SLO. I really like it for practice at home and I take what I need to run it through the sound board if I need to at a gig. Makes a great backup, IMO, but if I had to I'd play a whole gig with it.

Re: Anybody using a Computer for Effects/modelling?

Whenever I record, I record totally dry and use computer plugins for effects. I couldn't tell you what any of them are, however. That's my engineer's job. I just play. :)

Re: Anybody using a Computer for Effects/modelling?

I really like the lepou stuff. Hard to beat since its free
As I said above Guitar Rig Free sounds great comes with a great sounding Marshallish amp and a great delay (EHX) and flanger chorus (TC Electronic). It isnt complicated you just drag stuff in the order you want to use it so drag in an amp then a delay. I have POD Farm as well and the only tone I liked was the JCM800 model and I reckon GR does Marshall tones better (less digital sounding). I dont see why people dont have the free version of all these software as they are better at different things and can all be useful, the only exception I guess is if you are a technofobe with no interest in recording then Id suggest sticking to analog amps.

Re: Anybody using a Computer for Effects/modelling?

I assume anyone using a computer for FX or modelling is just resticted to recording or practice...

Anyone use one during a live gig or rehearsal instead of amp/FX? I've seen a few lounge acts use a computer but not sure if it was just for backing tracks etc.

Re: Anybody using a Computer for Effects/modelling?

I have Amplitube 3 and Revalver 3. After getting them, I didn't immediately rush to start using them instead of miking my amps. But over the last couple of years I have used them and gotten great sounds. I have a few different amps, but the only ultra high gain amp I have is my 6505+. It sounds great and I've recorded it miked.
But it's great to have Triple XXX, Orange, JSX, and Boogie models in Amplitube and Revalver if I want those sounds.
And even though I can get great clean tones miking my amps, I really like a couple of the clean Fender amps in Amplitube. if I wanna get a part done quick and don't have time to mess with plugging in cables between a mic, a preamp and my recording interface, I just record direct and use Amplitube on the guitar tracks.
