I built a batch of guitar cables a few years ago and love them, but my bassist son and his friends keep making off with them, so I need to make some more. Cable is cheaper if I buy in bulk, but I don't need 100 feet worth of new guitar cords. So, before I order my materials, I thought I'd open it up and see if there's any interest here on the SDUGF.
My cables start with Pro Co WC120SX shielded cable. According to Pro Co:
"This professional grade Musicmover guitar, instrument, and small signal cable was designed to withstand the rigors of on road touring and everyday use. Each cable features a 20 gauge stranded center conductor and a 100% coverage, extruded barrier super flexible black PVC jacket plus a spiral 90% wound copper shield. Made in USA. .285"/7.25 mm OD Jacket.
It's a fairly fat cable, but very flexible due to its soft rubber jacket. Definitely built to hold up. I've been using mine for five years with no failures.
For connectors, I use Neutrik NP2X and NP2RX 1/4" plugs. The Pro Co cable fits Neutrik's strain relief snugly for a solid connection, but not so tight it crushes the cable. Buyers can choose any combination of straight and right-angle plugs. Silver connectors are standard, black and gold optional.
To minimize both pricing and hassle, the Pro Co/Neutrik combination is all I offer, though I'll install an oddball connector (for example, a male-female extension cable) if you need it. This a great way to go if you need a special length cable. Last time I did this, I used half a roll making a 50-foot cable for a buddy who plays in a praise band and wanted to move his amp offstage.
I'll price each cable individually with materials at cost, plus a modest labor charge. Some sample prices:
Shipping will be at cost, since it depends on the number and length of cables your buy.
These are high-quality, no-frills cables at way less than boutique prices. I'm not looking to fill hundreds of orders, or make a huge profit. This is just a way to keep my own costs down. If you're interested in getting in on the action, drop me a PM with your specs.
