Anyone buy this guy's CE-2 chorus clone pedal?

Re: Anyone buy this guy's CE-2 chorus clone pedal?

Vibrato is simply a chorus pedal minus the clean signal. Maybe he can modify it for you to add a switch for chorus/vibrato?

The price is right, so it may be worth a shot. I used to own a Voodoo Labs Analog Chorus which is supposed to be a CE-2 clone and it sounded pretty good. I ended up selling it because it was pretty noisy. A couple years later I found an early 1980 Boss CE-2; it just kills the Voodoo Lab in terms of tone and it's also much quieter. Maybe I've just got a "magic" one because I've played a bunch and this one was by far the best of the lot.

yeah I agree 100%. Ive had the voodoo, the ce2 and the ce3.
The ce2 is the nicest of the bunch pretty easily, but i modded the ce3 to sound just as good with the invaluable and appreciated advice from Vasshu. Once i was done they both sounded great.
However, both the boss ones have a pretty noticeable tone suck when off (at least to my ears) so the voodoo has the boss beaten on that front.
When i have a few spare bucks ill get another ce2 and do the clickless bypass thing to it and live happily ever after....except that i virtually never use chorus! lol
I would to the clickless mod to the ce3 (the only chorus i still have) but cos its stereo out, that wont work.
Sorry to the OP for rambling,
back on track....the chorus in my JC60 was pretty damn lush. Maybe just because of where it sits in the actual signal chain?

Wow, CE-2 is better than the Voodoo Lab? I love my Voodoo Lab, I'll have to try to find a CE-2.

Do you use it like a traditional chorus or like a faux Leslie?

More eBay sellers should have a custom shop.

I use mine like a conventional chorus. If possible try to audition several because they tend to vary a bit. When I acquired mine there were three CE-2s in various shops around here; 2 MIJ and 1 MIT. Of the three the MIT was the least good; it sounded decent but was nothing special. The two MIJs sounded great; the early 1980 example I picked sounded slightly better than a later model. I've heard this is due to component tolerances or possibly to different settings on the internal trim pot. Either way I'm a bit hesitant to believe the Internet lore that the 'long dash / silver screw' version is better even though it happened to be true in my case.

I've been playing for 18 years and I didn't know this!

Re: Anyone buy this guy's CE-2 chorus clone pedal?

Yup, vibrato is basically just wet-only chorus. For hardwired or true bypass chorus pedals, modding them with a chorus/vibrato switch is often very simple. The CE-2 can be modded with a switch, but disconnected the dry signal messes up the FET bypass circuitry, so that you have to flip the switch back to "chorus" to get the pedal into bypass mode. It's kind of a kludge if you want to use the pedal live, but for studio use, it's a cheap hack. Brain Wampler included the CE-2 mod in his book years ago.

My Mooer Ensemble King is pretty darn CE-2 like….

My Digitech Chorus Factory can nail any flavor of CE-2 that ever existed.
