Re: Anyone else heard the rumor that EVH is moving to Crate?
I think you need to be careful with terminology. The 5150 was Ed's "Signature" amp ie he was involved with its designed. He may strike a deal with Crate as an endorser. Malmsteen got paid by Crate as an endorser and I seriously doubt he EVER played one. On the other hand I have seen so called amp snobs of the highest order heap high prize on a Blue Voodoo in a blind taste test.
It really doesn't matter what he uses. It won't sound like VH1 and everyone will bitch. So let it be written...So let it be done.........
Re: Anyone else heard the rumor that EVH is moving to Crate?
Welcome to a few months ago. I think it might Crate some good considering their reputation. Remember wat everyone thought about Peavey when it came to guitar amps in late 80's - earlier 90's? Peavey are making some beautiful amps and i think we can thank eddie to a degree for giving them the chance to create a great amp for him. Maybe the same could happen for Crate?
Re: Anyone else heard the rumor that EVH is moving to Crate?
The BV and Vintage Club amps are very cool, I have used both extensively over the years and had zero issues and solid tone. I know that isn't the case with all models but my experience was very good. I just plugged into a BV a few weeks back and still thought it sounded very nice.
Re: Anyone else heard the rumor that EVH is moving to Crate?
Am I the only person that thinks Ed's tone (since the Peavey deal) has been on a decline?
I'll take the Marshall or Soldano days over the 5150 anytime. Crate will pay him and he will probably use them...but I have a feeling his best days, tonally, are well behind him.
Re: Anyone else heard the rumor that EVH is moving to Crate?
EVH has always done his own thing, this will be no different. I, like so many others, love his early tone the best, but this new thing could be very interesting. I have a feeling it will be horrible, but that's why I don't buy signature artist heads period.
Re: Anyone else heard the rumor that EVH is moving to Crate?
I find the 5150 and 5150II to be rather harsh in the treble end and non responsive in the mid and low end....they just sort of thud away and go nowhere. At least that is how I myself hear the 5150 models.
I wonder if all the years of loud amps have blown away Edwards high end hearing??
