Anyone else heard the rumor that EVH is moving to Crate?

Yeah the tones on F.U.C.K. , while not his brown sound, were pretty awesome. I especially liked "Poundcake" with all that sparkle and harmonics flying around.

Do you mean to say that whole record was Soldano?

No I was talking about just that song...I believe the Marshall was still being used in spots on F.U.C.K. I know it was used on Amsterdam from the Balance CD.

Re: Anyone else heard the rumor that EVH is moving to Crate?

all these guys like EVH are sellouts IMHO. they got famous playing certain amps and then they switch and get a new amp or guitar company to make money. its scummy. i played a 5150 in a store and i turned the preamp all the way down and the master up and the head is 1)too loud 2)sterile and buzzy 3) Overpriced 4)not that cool since its a sig amp. with regard to the wolfgang guitars ive never played one but theyre godawful looking and horribly overpriced. 1600 for a bolt on, maple top LICENSED floyd rose and a basswood body? unless the neck is made of gold i wouldnt touch that thing.

Here is the thing.

The wolfgang is no longer going to be made. Unlike the musicman EVH which just changed names to 'axis'.

The 5150 is going to finish its run then change its name (so I hear).

Because the 5150 was widely popular but not really identified as 'Ed's amp'.
The wolfgang actually has the dudes name and signature on it, so its out (unfortunatly cause its one of the best production guitars on the planet).

\m/ Peace out

They rumor I hear about Peavey is, After the begining of the year they are going to slightly change the wolfgang and lower the price on them a good amount. I know a halfway decent source this has came from.

Sounds sweet to me. Maybe theyll even consider doing people like me a favour and start making some lefty models aswell :yell: . :saeek: .

I don have to add that though Steve is my fav American player I have never been big on his tone regardless of amplification.

He was definately using 5150's when I seen DP...I love his tone on 'Purpendicular', which has so much more lower mids than most guitarists. Certainly one of my favorite tones, as well as bavorite players!
BTW, nice guitar, Archer!

Re: Anyone else heard the rumor that EVH is moving to Crate?

That's brilliant news on the Peavey guitars.

On Ed's new tone, Bacially, It's not a nice result with the 5150/Wolfgang pups set with too much treble :smack:

A decent producer would probably sort it out.

I think Ed's having way too much say in the final mix. The hearing loss is a worrying thing. The poor guy should have starting wearing those tractor driving earmuffs like PG & EJ.

means 5150 prices will either dive (as the new model comes out, people go for that)

or soar (as people move to snap up the remaining units)

which one, though?

Imp, hopefully a dive! I could go for a good 5150 to add to the family :laugh2:

I'm hoping they soar and that I've got myself a nice little investment. :laugh2: Then again, I have the 5150 II...with my luck, the originals will probably be the only ones to hold any value.

I've heard a lot of people really like that neck, although i haven't played one, or a 5150 for that matter, so I'll stay neutral on that...

Eddie owns the patents on the designs. By the time they changed everything that belongs to Ed(pup, neck and body shape etc) it would be a far cry from a wolfgang anymore. They will probably be cheaper only because they will have all of them made in korea. The Korean models are already about 1/3 the price.

Re: Anyone else heard the rumor that EVH is moving to Crate?

There is supposedly quite a big difference between the earlier block EVH 5150 heads and the later signature-on-the-front ones.Apparently the block EVHs sound a lot beefier. Anyone care to elaborate?

The 5150 IIs are a different story altogether IMO. Dirty channel sounds a lot more compressed and nu-metal i.e. chunky as opposed to crunchy. But the separate EQ helps.

As far as prices go, I believe they'll probably fall in the short run when everyone tries out the new crates or whatever. Prices will probably revert if not increase in the long run when people realize the tonal value of the amplifier and also due to its non-production status. I'm thinking along the lines of early Marshall Plexis in terms or prices here... though I could be wrong.

.......?????????????
Aside from the fact that the 5150 amp initially had a block SIGNATURE of EVH, and then also a written SIGNATURE of Eddie Van Halen on the faceplate?!?
I think its pretty much his!

but lots of other artists use the 5150. Its not like its 'Eddies, and his alone'.
There are other artists with 5150 to their name.

The wolfie however (a great axe) IS eddies alone, nobody else pro uses them really and therefore.. .. . cya wolfie.

me too, i got a door i need to hold open :laugh2:

tried to use one in a rehearsal yesterday, just wasnt happening. they must have a 3-year-old biasing them at the place i use.. ended up with a valvestate, which i'm now quite impressed by

i mean, the 5150 sounds *bugger all* like van halen's tone... its not as if the tones which made him famous in the beginning are within reach of the peavey amp...

its a nice metal amp, sure - but van halen? naaaaaa!
