Anyone else here who likes the Marshall Origin?

My experience with Solid State amps is they cut through just fine -just typically slightly harsher because they lack that natural tube compression that rounds the transients that tend to wear on the ears because a Solid State more faithfully reproduces that stuff.

Since you use that little Keeley compressor you likely don't suffer this issue I speak of as much -but without tubes, it's still a factor to dial EQ to avoid or balance... or pronounce I guess if you dig harsh.
I was speaking in particular about Line6 ss amps. I have a solid state Randall head that cuts through just fine. Of course it doesn't hurt to run a 31 band eq in the loop.

you just kinda hit on something there. i never thought those line6 amps cut through live very well. in order to be heard, you need to be way too loud.
Yes! My little Princeton Reverb with an Eminence and a few mods slays my bandmate’s Line 6 that’s rated at 50W. From a DB standpoint I think he can get it loud but it just doesn’t have the cut of a small tube amp and a pedal.

There's a whole host of metal guys that get their gain from their amp.

Lots of metal players are also using pedals to give their amp a slight kick in the front. Even on high gain amps. Though using too much pedal gain into a high gain amp can be redundant.

And hitting the preamp with too much signal from a pedal does weird things like cause (not good) feedback.

Well, the whole idea of gain stages. You use it to sculpt tone.

It's a right of passage that a beginner will quickly learn of this when running an MT-2 full tilt into a cheap practice amp, often with no alternative on hand.

I tried a lot of pedals with the Origin and prefer the KOT and KLON type circuits, very harmonically rich and brings out the right frequencies.
Right now testing a VOP/OD820 and its nice also on very low gain settings. I'm pretty much in a strat/single coil phase but i can get thick distortion too using more gain on the pedal. I kill any unwanted feedback with a decimator. I think the way this amp is meant to be used is by riding the tone and volume knobs a lot going from clean to br00tz. The amp excels in breakup tone, just lovely.
