LOL, it's all good, Izzo, in the right guitar it looks and sounds great!

Boppy-- yeah, I wonder what the rest of the guitar that JB came out of looks like! I guess to some people, a guitar really is seen more as a tool to get the job done than a fine musical instrument, and the treatment of it (and the condition of the guitar) will reflect that. I'm trying not to detour off into a whole r**** guitar thread, just trying to keep it to pickups, but since a pickup is supposed to go into a guitar, it sorta goes hand in hand.

I wish I had pics of the EMG's I had, years ago. Ever see an EMG with the cover off? These were about as close as you'd ever get to it. Those things were GONE.

For the record, that's how they were when I got the guitar.

I like old looking pups. I have a 500T that is starting to rust on the polepeices, there is some pretty thick grooves in the pickups because the guitar and strings I was using for a while. There are scratches all over the bobbins and the back is all worn and rusted over.

I would never pay for a pre-reliced pickups though unless it was an antiquity cause they just sound amazing.

I like the aged cover look a lot -- but the aged bobbin/screw/etc doesn't do it for me.

I like a well worn Paula.

In fact, i remove the selector ring, pickguard and bracket, trussrod cover and replace the speed knobs with tophats. No extra plastic unless its necessary... which is why i prefer a studio over a custom. i just like having a blank canvas to work with.

And, well, hell... i like the double black 490R/T set. If i get a 498T, i trade it for a 490T.

Unless i can score a sh1 ;)

Those finishes on the studios really lend themselves to be "molded" to show your playing.

the nickel and gold covers are wayyyyy toooo bright and shine too much.

lol i actually like swapping rusted screws from older guitars to add character.

Really tho....

i suppose if i could afford a LP Custom, I think I'd keep it stock and pretty tho.

Itd kill me to beat the crap out of a 3000 dollar guitar. Seriously.

Yeah, I did. It's a good pup for anything from blues to metal. I really like it. They pop up pretty cheap quite often. I've seen them go down to $30 for the real beat up ones.

I like my guitars and PU's to look new. I always seem to run across new ones that tempt me, and periodically some of the old ones have to go, and I refuse to take the financial hit on a beat-up guitar or PU. Just about everyone here eventually sells some of their stuff for whatever reason, and you always get more for it when it's in nice condition. I buy most of my stuff used, and find no 'mojo' in someone else's dents, dings, gouges, rust, dirt, sweat, mucous, slime, etc. Yuck! :crazy:

mucous, slime, etc... definitely a deterrent. Some oxidation and wear on a pickup (for me)-- sure. Boogers-- no. :)

It's a worn gold covered bridge with rusting screws . . . I might hit you up on this offer at some point. I'm thinking of spraying a clear coat on my next gold pickups to keep the buggers from getting all beaten up.
