I'm really glad I bought my 120 watt Valvetronix head..I've really been having alot of fun with this thing and I Like the tone and the way it reacts...If you happen upon one while you're walking around your music store,check it out..Please be sure you twist some knobs and treat it like any other amp...

I payed $600 for this new head and I feel like I still got a great deal....Nice job Vox/Korg... :dance:

yea i tried one of those 120 heads with a proper guitar out and it rocked. really liked the sound of it. not as thin and harsh as other modeling amps i tried were (spider2)

i especially liked the black 2x12 preset .. didnt tweak it a whole lot though =/

I've tried the 15 watt and 30 watt combo versions and was very impressed. The 15 watt combo actually sounded better than the 30 IMO.

I was at the Guitar store yesterday. They only had the valvetronics
combo. I planed on trying it, But I pluged into a Hot Rod Deluxe and
couldn't stop playing it :smack: I had to pickup my son from school
so I never got to it :yell: But! I'm going to GC this weekend. I'll give
it a whirl. But that HRD was sweet I'm sure the vox is a totally
different beast than the HRD. I plan on a A-B comparison. I smell
G.A.S. :32:

yea, I tried one the other day at the store...(60watt combo) and it sounded great, I got a bunch of nice tones in the short time I had to mess with it...seems really deep, I bet if you spent some time you could get some serious tones out of it...I think I see one in my future!

I've got the original AD-60 open back combo and the AD-30. They are both fun. I'll probably get the head one of these days, too.

One thing I can't figure out or confirm is if your on a preset and then twist a dial or add an effect, without going into manual mode, does this affect the other dials and settings or just the dial you tweaked. This assumes your on a preset but the diala ARE NOT sinced (sinked?) up.

I've noticed that if I'm on a preset and tweak a dial, without going into manual mode, it throws the whole sound off. So I'm starting to think that if I tweak anything other than the master volume, it goes into a manual mode state where the amp plays the actual dial settings. So if I want to tweak a preset I have to do the flashing light thing and get all the dials the way the preset was saved. Then tweak from there.

i have not been able to try one but i am so interested in these amps. the local music shop carries them but puts them in the corner and i don't want to pull it down to try it out. i think they only have the 60 watt combo right now. I asked them a while back to get the 30 or the 50 (more in my price range) and they got nothing.

One thing I can't figure out or confirm is if your on a preset and then twist a dial or add an effect, without going into manual mode, does this affect the other dials and settings or just the dial you tweaked. This assumes your on a preset but the diala ARE NOT sinced (sinked?) up.

That doesn't seem to be the scenario on my amp? If I twist one knob,it seems that just that one change takes place...

Here's a way to test that...Move away from the preset your currently on after you make a change to say your treble....in other words move your treble from say 2 to 8 and then store that change...Jot down some of the other settings by moving any of the controls back and forth until you see the little "original value" led either flash or stay on momentarily..This flashing led is the "stored" value of the knob setting and each and every knob and effect you've stored on a preset can be verified and written down just by moving a knob and watching for that led to come on...

After you move away from any given preset and return,and regardless of where the knob positions are,you should still be able to verify the preset settings by watching the red led come on again in the same positions you jotted down...follow me? Also..If you make a change to a knob or effect,but you don't store it,next time you come back to that preset,the original changes will remain and not the new change..The changes you make are "manual changes" until you press the store button twice.After you store it the change is now "permanent" and will return to that each and every time you return to that preset...This amp is so easy and intuitive overall..

Also...Get into the habit of actually writing your home made presets down on the preset blank pages...If something goes wrong,you'll be able to quickly get your presets back into your amp... :13:

Nope...It's too easy...Check this out....

You're on one of your presets and you love it but wish it had a bit more gain and mids...Walk over to your amp and adjust the gain and mids like you would on any amp...Once it sounds good to you,press "store" twice....Next time you recall that preset,the settings will reflect on the new stored settings...I Like to grab the knob,bring it down to 0 and then up to where I want it...This resets the adjustments on the control...You see this alot on the gain control..In other words,you turn the gain knob up from say 5 to 6 and you hear this huge difference in volume and gain..I take that control and move it down and then back up and get it where I want it and then "store" that new adjusted setting...The amp will always remember where your stored settings are,regardless of where the knobs are...If you were to turn every knob off on your amp and turned it off and back on again,all of your stored settings would remain...Just remember this...Your amp doesn't create any permanent changes to a preset unless you physically store the changes...If you tweak a preset on the fly and don't store the changes,the next time you go back to that preset,your settings will only reflect your originally stored preset control settings....GOT IT? :13:

Manual Mode is if you want to start completely from scratch building your amp,adjusting the controls,and then adding your effects...If you have a preset that is pretty close to what you want,just tweak the knobs until you're happy,press store twice and you're done...Just idiot proof really...

I've read my manual several times but I'm a hands on kinda guy and the amp is intuitive and fun....And easy! :dance:

I tried the 50 watt model about 3 months ago. I only spent about 10 minutes with it but in that short time I was very impressed with how fast I was able to dial in a few great sounds. I was using a Tele and I loved the Tweed 4x10 setting. Great, great tone. I've never played thru the real deal so I can't compare. I'm just saying that on it's own it was a great sound. I also tried out one of the Marshall settings. I could be wrong but I think it was a UK '70's setting. Very nice indeed. I've never been too impressed with the Marshall settings on some of the other modelers that I've tried. Seems to sound like you have the speaker placed in a metal trash bin. But again I was able to dial up a pretty decent tone very quickly. I'm still considering picking one of the 50 watters up but I think I'll wait a while though. Seems like they have a few quality issues they need to address first.

Most of the issues were on the VT version combos and not on the VTX series...I have the head and so have alot less issues to deal with..Things like cabinet rattle and speaker crackling aren't an issue in my case...I didn't need the cab and it saved me some money...

I bought the head to mess with knowing I had 15 days or more to return it if I didn't like it...I also had quite a bit of money put aside for the head if I did keep it..It's a keeper....It took me longer than 10 minutes to love mine,but it wasn't alot longer than 10 minutes!

I am a bit leary of buying one used off of ebay without the option of having a warranty. So I may just have to spring for the full price. Either way, I'm getting one. John, have you tried it through the Marshall cab yet? What speakers are in the 2x12? Open or closed back?

Hey JumpMarine. I just got a Vox 2 12 cabinet. They have the celestion neodyne speakers in a closed back birch cabinet, these cabinets are a little pricey but after enjoying mine the last few days I feel like the cost is justified.

No I haven't tryed my head through my Marshall 4x12,and it's only because I was spending time dialing it into the 2x12 cab...

I've been very happy using the open back cabinet of my Fender Cyber Twin...The CT has a deeper cabinet,no vibration problems,and the speakers are Celestion 100 watters...They retain a nice tight tone and tight strong bass and yet they do the clean Fender jangle thing really nice...

I just sit my Vox head on top of the CT...If either one of my amps goes down,the other is only minutes away from getting me back into the groove again...To date,my Cyber Twin has "never ever" let me down...
