Anyone else wants/uses different boosts for clean/OD channels?

Usually I've been happy with just a single clean/ish boost for both of my sounds, or even for boosting the Crunchbox.

But today, after swapping the 4558 *pukes* for a TL072 *YUM!!!* in my route 66, it got way louder, clearer, more open, and I was wondering... well... what if I wanted two different boosts :O

Situtation is, I use the amp on the clean channel, the CB for high gain tones, and I boost the clean channels for my OD. The route 66 ALWAYS has the drive to 0, and the level to 11. Why? I use it as a boost. The compression is set for a mild compression and a milder boost. BUT the compression changes the tone too much compared to the boost.

And the boost makes my clean channel distorted, which is ok, but too loud. DOH!

However it works great with the OD channel. I set it for less drive, then boost it and helloooo harmonics and chunk. It's also very nice if I set the CB for less gain, then boost it for heavy stuff.

So I'm thinking... do I need another OD?

The route 66 for the drive channel, and a less loud, but as heavy in harmonics and as polyvalent as a route 66, though smaller in size?
I'll probably end up getting a SD1 and mod the French out of it anyway.

Any of you guys realized that after a while? Or very soon for all I know, I'm still a n00b.

I like boosts a lot too. In fact, I liked a certain boost circuit in front of one of my distortion pedals so much, I rebuilt both of them into the same enclosure! I don't see anything wrong with using more than one booster. I use a couple.

Well... say I, one day, want to use it as a standalone OD rather than a boost. Something I can't do with a Tube Screamer for instance.

so you replaced the jrc4558 with a tl072 and you like? direct replacement?

Re: Anyone else wants/uses different boosts for clean/OD channels?

In most circuits, and every TS based circuits. I put a socket under.

It opens up the tone and makes it more... transparent actually. It's part of the way, for me, to make a TS circuit to where I want it.

A lot of people say the opamp doesn't make THAT much difference. But I disagree. Sure, a great opamp and another great opamp will essentially do the same thing, sounding a little different. But a not so good one and a good one will really make the difference noticeable.
I put a TL072 in my SD1 a while back and it really helped too.

But this mod by itself won't entirely change the sound, it'll just improve on it a little bit. I think.

Note: my total experience with both said chips is a Boss SD1 and a Route 66. :D
