Anyone ever ordered an overwound 59B?

My favorite humbuckers tend to be in the range of 59, C5/59 hybrid, Brobucker, and C5.

Many tone purists insist that a regular ole 59 set is perfect. For me, I'd almost like them calibrated differently. Slightly hotter bridge, and slightly underwound neck.

Can anyone comment on that idea, or give any reasons why a 9.0K 59B rather than 8.13K would not be better?

Re: Anyone ever ordered an overwound 59B?

ive had 10k and 9.4k antiquitys made and they are both magical. 8.1k is a little light for me too but try something a little over 9k and i bet youll fall in love.

Re: Anyone ever ordered an overwound 59B?

+1. '59's with a 9K bridge & 7.5K neck would be very nice. Duncan really needs to do this. The '59 is a great PAF but some players need more output and warmth from a bridge, but not as much as a C5. A little less on the neck would take out the boominess. We need to campaign for a hot '59 set.

Re: Anyone ever ordered an overwound 59B?

Get enough Custom Shop orders and they'll probably make it a production model.

However, once we've all ordered enough Customs to fill our needs, who's going to buy the productions?

Re: Anyone ever ordered an overwound 59B?

I ordered three 9.1K 59s and one 9.3K. LOVE THEM!!!!!!

My search has ended for the perfect bridge pickup.

They need to make it a production pickup, and call it the 59+. Or "The 60".

Fralin HBs are like that. 7.5K neck and 9.0K bridge.

Go figure... :naughty:

59+ is right on. The PAFs form 1957 to beginning 1961 had mostly round about 8.2k, but the field readings in the ToneQuest Report April 2008 went from 6.48 to 9.7k.

The 60 brings it into the false direction: All the 60ies PAF were strictly 7.5k, but the field readings of the TQ Mag brought 7.2 up to 8.3K. I think the extreme readings could also have to do with a kind of alteration due to age on the wire materials.

The 59+ should have a slight difference between the coils like .3k.

Just out of curiosity, wouldn´t a '59n essentially BE an unnderwound '59b?

lol :beerchug:

And now I just noticed I wasn´t quite awake when I posted, Jonsesey wanted an overwound 59b :laugh2:

Re: Anyone ever ordered an overwound 59B?

I think a 9K '59 is a great idea, depending on how it's billed ... if it could be a floor shop custom, that'd be great, but I doubt they'd do that.

Isn't this how the Brobucker came about? Desire for a 10k-ish A5 PAF?

IIRC, it started as a 10K PAF ... the magnet type was kicked around a bit. A5 was decided by a vote, like the rest of the specs, but before we voted, some people felt A2 would've gotten muddy.

Shop floor custom is easy stuff like bobbin colors, wax or no wax, covers, etc. at no additional cost compared to the regular version.

When you're talking about a custom wound pickup, I'm pretty sure that's going to be a custom shop order, at the custom shop price.

Re: Anyone ever ordered an overwound 59B?

They could call it the 59K.

Isn't the PATB BlueS ~9K?

Yeah, its one of my favorite pickups, but i cant get over the looks. Its a mess.

i also have a Brobucker, but i found it a little bit over the top with 10k. A little too warm in a LP

The other thing is to get an high Ant (i've heard about 8.7k) and swap out against full charged A5.

Re: Anyone ever ordered an overwound 59B?

All this talk has got me jonesing to try out a Brobucker or an Antiquity.

How would one get an overwound 59b or an Ant? Just call the Custom shop I presume? Can you order Ants without covers or is that a bad idea due to them being unpotted?

Re: Anyone ever ordered an overwound 59B?

Slightly related, but I ordered a JB with double Fillister heads, and SD sent me a '59b...

I am debating sending it back or just trying it out. What are two rows of Fillister screws going to do the sound?

Re: Anyone ever ordered an overwound 59B?

i pulled the covers off my antiquitys. having the covers on potentially could cause more feedback since they arent potted. removing them shouldnt increase the potential for feedback at all so no concern there.

to get my overwound stuff it was custom shop but worth every penny
