Anyone ever ordered an overwound 59B?

Re: Anyone ever ordered an overwound 59B?

I think a 9K '59 is a great idea, depending on how it's billed ... if it could be a floor shop custom, that'd be great, but I doubt they'd do that.

It would be great if an overwound 59B could be a floor shop custom, because it seems to me that it doesn't take special skills to throw X amount of extra windings on the bobbins.....but that's just my guess. For me, it probably wouldn't be a pickup I'd throw out $160 plus shipping and tax for.

But, if we can ever agree on another forum pickup, sold at the regular price, my vote would be for this pickup in nickel, black, and tremspaced.

+1. And also in gold and regular spaced. I think a number of players would like to add a little more midrange & output to their '59B but don't want to go all the way to a C5. This should be offered in whatever configurations sell best for '59's.

Re: Anyone ever ordered an overwound 59B?

i just did some back to back listening of my "9K 59+" and standard 59 this weekend.

(I have two 9.0Ks and one 9.3K for the record..."

The 59 has more sheen, sparkle, less mids, and a little more clarity to it. Still one of the most versatile SD buckers.

The 9K has more overall mids, aggressiveness, bark, less treble, more upper midrange. Lead tones absolutely sing. A great compliment to the 59 neck. Still feels like it's in the 59 family.

I would order 2 right now if they were available as a regular production model. Hell, the Fralins are cheaper than the Duncan custom shop builds.

I'm looking for something in the 9-10k range, the brobucker seems like it might just be perfect. But also quite costly.

And that's what we're looking for!

This usually sets people off, but the Screaming Demon is 10K, although with smaller gauge wire. It is supposed to sound like a '59 with more growl and less bite... A2, A3 or A4 might get it more in the area of vintage... Dual rows of screws or 250K pot might also help... or degaussing. ;)

FWIW "shop floor custom" can include flipping the magnet, 4-wire instead of vintage, plus the stuff TC mentioned.

If you want a baseplate on a Quarter Pound, that's Custom Shop.

Yeah, it's definitely not the same.

43AWG and 42AWG have very different characteristics and feel. The Demon is nothing like the 9K 59's that I've ordered.

There's only one way to get that 9-10K wind with 59 specs... custom shop! MJ will hook you up.

You mean 43 vs 42?

I picked up a Demon at the Schecter/Duncan sale in Burbank, and I'm planning on trying it stock and with an A2 in both neck and bridge positions.

Re: Anyone ever ordered an overwound 59B?

Isn't "more growl and less bite" what adding winds to the stock '59 does? More mids and less highs? ;)

I never quite understood why people were getting pissed the first time around and would get warned or banned for mentioning 10k pickup. The Brobucker was a hit and those that came up with the idea were geniuses so to speak.
