Anyone ever play a Galveston guitar or bass?

Saw a few doublenecks on ebay, not a bad price. I know I'm not gonna get PRS, Gibson, Fender quality but I don't want complete junk either.

Thanks :beerchug:

My friend has a Galveston acoustic. Looks like an Ovation. Plays REALLY good. Although I don't like the sound, but that's probably the plastic back

I once saw this huge 8-string bass of theirs (that's 8 strings besides eachother, not a 4-string with octave strings. Maybe I'm mistaking though, it could have been a 7-string). I'm very curious about those, although any bass with more than 5 strings is a bit too radical to my liking.

I think Armotron had a Galv. 8 string like just mentioned, , maybe he´ll chime in ;)

i've played the acoustics...they're decent...kinda mid to low mid in quality...

Wow..... the 8 string bass would be great for some Who tunes.... and the 12 string would be cool for some Cheap Trick tunes.....

This Galveston brand i forgot who makes it.... it's a large company that makes many different brands...

Yeah, I've seen some other stuff like Tennessee that has a slightly different headstock, but the bodies, pickups, knobs, even the bat inlays on the necks are exactly the same.

That percussive, almost Middle Eastern sound you hear occasionally on "Wherever I May Roam" by Metallica is a 12 string bass.

Phew! Just realized how old this thread is. No matter. It bears responding to.

As aggravating as it has been to find do little anywhere on the guitar or the company, I find the 12-string bass quite utile. Only two things bother me with what I have to admit I bought because it was the least expensive 12-string I could find at the time, I really love it. Only two complaints; it's heavy as he'll (Well duh...) and the active electronics switch pops real loud when switching on. I couldn't fix it and my guitar tech and his assistant couldn't find the cause. Just pop the tuner on (completely shuts the signal down), switch the active electronics on, then pop the tuner back off. No big deal from then on. The neck is good, fretboard - I don't believe - is any wider than it needs to be. Be honest - to fit 12 strings with one of them a bass and the other two a heavier gauge guitar it's gonna have to be kinda wide, and it is heavy, but so is my Les Paul. I think if there was one change I would make if I could, and honestly only one, it'd be the active electronics pop in the switch. I can easily bypass it with the help of the Peterson foot switch true-bypass tuner, but I'd rather it just not happen at all. So if anyone has found the secret easy to fix it... I can't say I'd gladly pay a grand for the guitar, but I DID gladly pay $400 for it (used) and a hard shell case, and I can't say I'd gladly pay the 3-4 grand they want for Hamers and Waterstones, either.
