Anyone ever put a GFS Mean 90 in a HSS strat?

I like P90's but i'm not sure how they'd sound in a strat. And i don't wanna buy or make a pickguard for P90/S/S, but i saw a post here in a google search with several people saying the mean 90 is the best sounding HB size p90 they have heard, much more like a P90 than even the phat cat. I've gone around and around with one of my strats trying to find the right bridge pup trying both single coil and HB bridge pups and never being quite happy. But i think a P90 might be the answer. I like HB's that ride that fine line between single coil and HB, that clean up more like a SC with more SC like dynamics. But to date i haven't found one like that and dont wanna try $500 worth of pups to find the one.

Anyways, has anyone tried one in a HSS strat and if so what are your thoughts in it, especially how well it cleans up when u ride the volume knob?

I had one in a strat. I loved it, but sold both the pickup and guitar (separately) a couple years ago. I wish I had that guitar back ...

I'm looking for a pickup that has strat single coil dynamics with touch and volume knob manipulation but doesn't get thin like the typical start bridge pup. Did it match that description, and how did you like the way it cleaned up? Chime, glass etc?

The amp I used at the time wasn't good for that. I'm sorry that I can't give you the info you want, but I did like the way it sounded both clean and dirty. Not nasally like a JB when clean and got real nasty when dirty. It was a great pickup.

Ok, thanks. Anyone else?

I love P-90s, and I am going to be trying a Mean 90 in the neck position of an HSH build that I’m working on.

That being said, to me a P90 is not very Strat-like. It starts to close in on the woolier sound of a humbucker instead of sounding like a single coil... at least in my opinion. If you want a more single-coilish tone you might try their Dream 90 instead. I bought a set last year for a project even though I couldn’t find much in terms of sound samples and have been VERY happy with them. It definitely has the single-coil chime and definition, but has a great bottom end present usually only found in buckers and the output of a humbucker as well.
