Anyone ever shave/shape the neck heel of a Les Paul.

How’d it turn for you? Got any pics?

I’m thinking of doing it to my Studio. Seems there’s enough material there to remove without affecting the joint too much.

I know it's been done but I don't see a need for me personally. I grew up playing in the 80s, so when you rip an upper register solo, headstock up to the sky!

I did a bolt on to glued in with a carved heel and it turned out great.

Yeah, just get an SG and be done with it.

The joint of a gibson LP isn't really a tight one. There are gaps in the joint and the design of this tenon joint covers up the gaps. The 'Neal Schon' LP joint, or the LP Axcess if you willl, is designed to be different so there are no gaps at all (which also solves the neck angle for a floyd, but that's a totally different story).

Personally, I do two versions of the LP joint. You decide which you like

You don't need that chunk 'o wood there to have a stable joint. It just requires a bit more planning, more careful clamping and a bit more finesse while finishing the guitar...

Always loved your builds orpheo. Beautiful work.

Anchor thumb on the underside of neck. Total access and complete freedom of movement.

I think it will work out fine. Just go slow in increments. Gibson is doing it now on the HP Les Paul's, so there is definitely enough wood to pull it off. I'll look forward to seeing the results.
