Anyone ever tried Sustainer?

Re: Anyone ever tried Sustainer?

I like the idea of the sustainiac giving you the option of tuning the output of the neck pickup in either sc or hb mode to match the output of the bridge pickup. I too have a small control cavity route, & I have heard great things about the Sustainiac, and they have always been very helpful when I 've called or written. I've tried the Fernandes system on many occasions, and there always seems to be something characteristic with it that to me, just doesn't sound as natural as the sustainiac that I've tried in the Jackson Dinky model.

Re: Anyone ever tried Sustainer?

The DK2 and DK2S are the same guitar (at least the H-S-S versions are/were), with the Sustainiac being the only construction difference.

Re: Anyone ever tried Sustainer?

And bear in mind I've never had any commercial attachment to either company. ;)

Awww, how cute! Before you make BS comments like that, pal...you may want to make sure your brain is turning over before you throw your mouth into gear. Ask ErikH about my integrity. I'm proud that I used to work at Fernandes. I've used both systems and prefer the Fernandes unit. If I liked the Sustainiac better and said I formerly worked for Fernandes, what would you think of me then, oh raging genius that you must be? Get a life.

Oh dear.

See the smiley on the end of what I said?

You might want to take your own advice about brain before mouth. :D

Re: Anyone ever tried Sustainer?

It looks like to me the Sustainer in the PC-1 is like the Floyd Rose Sustainer. Why did they do a special one off sustainer for the PC-1?

Floyd Rose has not made any sustainers since the late 80's, his design was picked up by Sustainiac. Again, there are only two sustainers, Fernandez and Sustainiac...its not a Sustianiac, I asked; that kind of narrows it down (besides looking at the back plate and realizing its not a Sustainiac design)

I'm pretty sure that's not true. The Jackson PC-1 doesn't use the Sustainiac or the Fernandes. So there's more than two Sustainers. Ask Phil Collen.

Re: Anyone ever tried Sustainer?

Certainly the Jackson 'site says it's their own driver. Doesn't look like a Sustainiac.

Jackson have used the Sustainiac in the past though.

There only two designs that I am aware of, Jackson USA is branded as Jackson (but I think they are licensing the design). While I have read Floyd Rose's name thrown around, you can read history of that in other places. He hasn't made them in...decades?

I have wired a handfull of aftermarket Sustianiacs, I have a '88? Kramer Sustainer with the original Floyd Rose Sustainer, I have a '08 DK2S with the factory Sustainiac, and I have an original late '89 Hamer Chaparral with the first (second production design actually) Sustainac.

I have had the back off of a PC-1 and the board and layout look much closer to the Fernandes design, but I am not an electronics design engineer, so it is just a guess.

Re: Anyone ever tried Sustainer?

How do you like that Jackson DK2S? I was thinking of getting one in the future. As I really like my cheap Jackson Dinky Performer guitar. So, I figured the DK2S would feel the same, but would be alot better since it is a Pro Series.

One thing though that I hate about my Jackson Performer, is that the high and low E strings like to pull off the fret board very easily when you fret them.

The DK2S is a pretty solid guitar, great price to quality ratio. The stock pups are a really nice fit to the tone of the guitar. They compliment each other very well. Overall, it is a really good instrument.
