Anyone ever try a DD neck with a JB in the bridge?

Ceramic magnets tend to make tone from a pickup brighter compared to alnico magnets. I have seen some guitars, from Godin and from Gibson, come stock with 2 high output humbuckers. While an Alnico 5 pickup is in the bridge, a Ceramic magnet pickup is used in the neck. Using a ceraminc magnet instead of A5 would seem to solve the problems of boominess in the neck position when the A5 magnet is used there, as well as provide better cut and brightness in the neck, where that quality is needed.

So, it would seem to me that since the DD bridge and the JB are essentially the same wind with different magnets, that the DD Neck, having a ceramic pickup, might go very well with a JB in the bridge. I did a search and could not find this already covered....

I think that it would probably work just fine as a combo.

Should work fine but in my experience, ceramic mags bring quite a bit of low end heft into the equation too. Just a different flavor of it. I have the same kind of idea going in my freaky green guitar. A2 bridge A5 neck.

The DDn is darker than a '59, Jazz or Alnico 2 Pro. It's a high output neck pickup so it has less clarity. It doens't have any "cut", but sounds creamy when playing leads. For a clean sound it has less detail than a moderate output humbucker. I found it mostly useless as any of the mentioned pickups will sound just as good overdriven, but have a much better clean sound.

This is very a very clarifying statement. I found it interesting to see how many people have a DD bridge and a Jazz neck. Why people chose that combo becomes more clear now given what you have found to be true about the DD neck.

I did this on this American Deluxe When I installed a Floyd Rose on it. I used the Distortion Neck but put an Alnico 2 in it. JB Trembucker with Warmoth pickguard.

Very smooth and powerful almost Les Paul neck sounding. I left it that way.

You could also try one with an RCA4.
