How'd it work out? I'm considering trying it in my G&L invader. I think I like the JB better in hardtail guitars. And for some reason the Distortion rocks in Floyd-equipped guitars. At least that's been my experience.
Re: Anyone ever try a Distortion bridge, '59 neck combo?
That's a nice combo. I had it for a while. The DD has good output and keeps up with the 59. The tones mesh nicely together.
I did this tune with a DD/59 combo
I've never had the '59 work in the neck of any guitar I've ever owned. For the exact reasons you mention. Too boomy, undefined, and muddy under any type of gain for me.
I like a more well balanced or even a brighter neck myself.
I know the '59 serves alot of people well but for myself it was completely over-rated and I think it's just one of those things people recommend because SD is synonymous with that and the JB.
In all honesty, they're two totally different pickups. The DD is like 2.5k's hotter, with a huge ceramic in it. Also, the Custom has more low end and is thicker.
