Anyone ever try the Svetlana EL34?

Re: Anyone ever try the Svetlana EL34?

I use Svetlana Winged C tubes in my Marshall JCM 2000. Those tubes along with the Sovtek preamp tubes gave me the exact sound I was looking for. They pretty much made my amp sound the way it did when I first got it.

I think the Svetlana Winged C are known as the true Svetlana tubes where as the ones that simply say Svetlana are not.

I highly recommend them.

Re: Anyone ever try the Svetlana EL34?

I really like the winged =C= Svetlana tubes, I definitely can recommend them.

Re: Anyone ever try the Svetlana EL34?

It really depends upon which Svetlana your referring to.

The Original Svet or the =C= has bit higher head room than most typical EL34's, with a later, not an earlier breakup. It excells in master volume amps. In a nmv amp it can stay a little too clean for some.

The EL34 tube that is called Svetlana now is really made by Sovtek and a different tube from the =C=.

Re: Anyone ever try the Svetlana EL34?

The "Winged C" Svetlanas are amazing tubes. As far as modern production EL-34s go, I don't think they can be beat, honestly.

Re: Anyone ever try the Svetlana EL34?

Then those would be probably made by Sovtek. I haven't tried those but I'm willing to bet they're a pretty good tube overall.

Re: Anyone ever try the Svetlana EL34?

Anything called 'Svetlana' that isn't from the St Petersburg factory is actually just a Sovtek.

Re: Anyone ever try the Svetlana EL34?

I tried a quad set in my Music Man HD-150. They just did not have the warm sound like the good ol' Fat Bottle Sylvania 6CA7's that are currently in the amp. I pulled them back out and sold them on ebay.

Re: Anyone ever try the Svetlana EL34?

I have a set in y Marshall 900 & the rock great. I bought a set for my Komet but haven't changed them yet. Right now I have a set of JJ KT77's in the Komet and am pretty pleased with them. nice and smooth, yet when I kick it they drive real nice!

Re: Anyone ever try the Svetlana EL34?

6CA7 is a very different tube from an EL34---more American sounding, like a big 6L6/7581A. Excellent if you want big cleans from an EL34 amp...stock compliment in old Traynors.

Re: Anyone ever try the Svetlana EL34?

Get the Winged C/SED tubes, and forget the new Sovtek "Svetlanas". The Winged C is the real deal. I use these in my Mark Series Mesa Boogies--EL34s in the Class A Simul-Class sockets and Winged C/SED 6L6s in the Class AB sockets.
