Anyone every strip the finish on a MIM Fender?

Not that I'm going to runout and strip the finish off of my Tele that my wife got for our anniversary last year. But has anyone ever done this to any of the alder bodied MIM's? What was the wood like and what did you use to strip it?

i think scott_F did that one time and didn't come out with good results. You have to carefully chip the paint off.

one reason why they put such a thick coat on those teles is because they could get away with using a really soft dark wood and a veneer without you noticing.

I just refinished my old American Standard Strat, big pain in the backside. They have a urethane finish that is tough as nails to get off. I would advise you to leave it as is because a lot of Fender bodies are more than one piece which may give you a problem unless you want to paint it an opaque color. I stripped mine to improve the tone not the appearance. Good Luck....Joe

I just refinished my old American Standard Strat, big pain in the backside. They have a urethane finish that is tough as nails to get off. I would advise you to leave it as is because a lot of Fender bodies are more than one piece which may give you a problem unless you want to paint it an opaque color. I stripped mine to improve the tone not the appearance. Good Luck....Joe

That would be Rory himself. Getting that thick urethane finish off a Strat will help open up the tone besides, it was beat up before I decided to refinish it. Are you a fan of Rory's? I think he is one of the most underrated blues/rock guitarists there are.....Joe
