Re: Anyone find they play better on less expensive guitars?

Sorry..no agenda. I said said cheap vs. expensive. I meant cheap vs. expensive & that's all. You chose to put a spin on that that....fine, your thing (certainly not what I was on about)

I meantioned Gibson in the Context of it being an *expensive* guitar.period.

Dude, you should quit while you still have some cred left. You did, indeed bring up the Gibson name. I didn't have to put any spin on it. The words came from you, not me.

You know, funny story, I know a guy who used to swear by cheap guitars and even went as far as to imply that owning a cheap guitar and making it play better made him a better player or at least a more pure player. He did this for years and like you, he had never owned a MIA Fender or a Gibson. Fast forward to the present day and he only owns 2 guitars now. A Gibson SG and a MIA Strat. He actually got his hands on some, played them and realized they actually are pretty good instruments. He sold all his cheap guitars and he is a damn good player.

Seriously folks, it's foolish to enter this discussion if your only experience with guitars is with cheap ones. I stand by what I said earlier in the thread: I play best on a well set-up guitar. However, that being said, if you have not even owned a Gibson, PRS or similar instrument then it's ok to state your preference of your cheap guitars however, don't bash a guitar just because you've never had the pleasure of owning one. That just makes it look like you don't know what you're talking about.

Bashing brands without experience = ignorance (lacking knowledge or awareness in general; uneducated)

I said cheap ones could be as good..that's what I said.

I've made my point ..read into it what you may..not going to be trolled ;) (same goes for guys like snakeaces..you guys can't really be as stupid as you're making yourselves out to be...my point was crystal clear..I'm sure you all got it.)

Calling forum bro's stupid is pretty low and I think this thread has run its course and needs to be locked down.

Re: Anyone find they play better on less expensive guitars?

In the interest of disclosure I've gigged with Gibsons and I currently own 4 of them. I've never owned a historic, but I've played literally hundreds of them as well as actual vintage pieces, so I can claim at least some familiarity.

IMO new Gibsons are overpriced for what they deliver and they could go a LONG way toward fixing that by improving their QC. The most common issue I see on new Gibsons are nut slots that bind with the factory strings. Changing string gauges is one thing, but a nut shouldn't bind with the strings shipped on the guitar. I've also seen improperly leveled frets (even on historics), though plek may have solved that one. I even remember playing a Les Paul Elegant fresh from the shipping box that had 0 volume and 4 tone controls.

I'm not saying this is a majority of their guitars (it definitely isn't), but similarly priced makers (PRS for example) seem to catch this stuff before it ships. All of these issues can also be fixed, and would have been covered under warranty if I'd bought those guitars. The big deal is that for their price point Gibson's QC is just unacceptably sloppy.

At least you've actually owned one. I haven't seen any of those issues but with as many guitars as they've produced I would be foolish to think that a percentage of them would never have any issues.

Re: Anyone find they play better on less expensive guitars?

Man... this thread went super potato retard.

The amount of passive aggressiveness shown by some is kinda eye opening.

So does any one have any comments on how they play better on guitars that they "think" they play better on?

I've been playing/gigging for 25 years & have played guitars of all types across all ranges. The reason I don't own anything in the $3000+ range is because I experience similar/better comfort levels & get tone I consider "as good" (...if not "better") out of far cheaper guitars that I've selected/modded/worked on. That's what I was sharing in this thread.

There was already a lot of other "pretty low" stuff going on in here. Unfortunately it's not as unacceptable on this forum as the "S" word..

And you can say that without bashing brands with which you have never owned nor gigged with and without calling forum bros name. Super simple.

There are guys on this Forum who love modding cheap guitars and would put them up against more expensive guitars. That is more than fine and is a personal preference.

I've found that I prefer to assemble my own guitars using quality American made parts usually from Warmoth and Musikraft.

I think my Gibson branded instruments are on average much cheaper than my Fender-branded ones :)
