Anyone got an HM Strat?

As many of you know, I GAS too much for stuff I can't afford (even if I am always GASing for sub 1k guitars). And as the rest of you know, I love me some superstrats, especially maple boards!

Been dying for an HM strat for awhile, whos got one, whos played one, and show me some pictures!

Very much a "YES" to a Maple Board HM Strat (Floyd Rose Version, not Kahler Spyder)!!! Great guitars; even with the Spyder. Problem is finding one that's not beat up or overpriced. Most if not all had had basswood bodies - seen more than a few w/the Floyd Trem Post collapsing so watch for that.

If you want a crazy 80s Fender go all the way: Contemporary Strat, with a front-route fulcrum trem, a side-grip locking nut that clamps with a toilet flush lever, and proprietary soap-bar humbuckers.

Those Contemporary Strats were cool guitars. In fact, everything Fender was doing at the time was interesting, and unlike anything before it. If you can find an 80s-era Fender Japan guitar, grab it.

Thanks guys! I did a search and that thread didn't come up...weird!

Yeah the contemporary series is a neat one, but nothing really grabs me from that line like the HM's do.

I own one of the (I believe they are late 80's maybe just hitting the 90's) Hot Rod Reissues that I absolutely love, even if its out of commission for the second time due to wood splitting at the floyd posts...

And for those who don't like the Kahler Spyder, I believe Gotoh floyds can drop right in on these.

As for Heem6...yes, he runs the HM forum, not very active at all but great resource.

EDIT: Sidenote...I've loved all these 80s looking guitars since I was 15...its too bad so many of the 'hidden gem' low cost models (like the charvel model series) are spiking big time in the last couple years.

Ok. I feel stupid. What does the "HM" stand for? I know HS, HSS etc.

I had one back in the 80's. It was a great playing guitar. Great neck. The pickups were a bit crap, and I didn't know how to change them out myself at the time. I wish I had never sold it. It was Pepto Bismol Pink...

Another cool un-Strat. I had a friend in high school who had one of these. It played like butter and had an unreal high-frequency response.

Here's mine. Used to be my Dad's.

Basswood body, 24 fret neck, 25" scale, Kayler Spyder, Super Distortion in the bridge, coil split, single coils were were nothing special, TBX tone controls.

One of the single coils quit working years ago and I pulled the Super D to try it in a different guitar. I need to get around to rebuilding it some day. I'm not much for Floyds, but the guitar is sentimental.

I had one of the USA ones with the Spyder and one of the Floyd Rose ones. I think the ones with the real Floyd were made in Japan. Anyway, they are great guitars, I love them! Kinda like an Ibanez RG with a more rounded, strat-y look.

It's almost bananas what the contemporary Strat's & Stratocasters are selling for these days!!! Way back when I was just starting to play with my first band (mid 90's) you couldn't give the things away. They were great guitars that were made as well, or better in some cases, as the USA Stratocasters of the time but their relationship with hair metal was a bit of a turnoff in the world of Kurt Cobain and the music from the time. I wasn't really one of them but to this day I do still hate Floyd Rose Tremolos! The up side of this of course was you could go into your local music store and pick up a MIA or MIJ guitar that had a Floyd and super pointy edges dirt cheap!!! I remember my buddy picking up a Charvel that originally cost OVER $900 new in 1988 for $150-$200 in 95!!! If he still had it today it would likely be worth more then the original selling price....

The company was a joint operation between the American and the Japanese branches of Fender Musical Instruments Corporation.

Despite a reputable build quality for having been made in the same factory as the Ibanez JEM guitar line, the Talon series incurred high sale prices that discouraged overall sales

To bring it back to (pure) HM Fenders, I really like the pickguard look below...

i like the blue one best i think.. almost bought a HM back in the day.. I remember seeing either greg howe or Tony MacAlpine endorsement in GFTPM issue and thought they looked pretty kool
