Anyone got an HM Strat?

Re: Anyone got an HM Strat?

I believe Gotoh floyds can drop right in on these.
Tried it in mine with a Gotoh and iirc the Gotoh's saddle screws were just a tad too long for the cavity and the cavity rubs a bit on the back corners of the plate.

Then I got this Prodigy(II) a couple years before the HM, even dropping a coil split and DiMarzio to try and mimic a HM.

Re: Anyone got an HM Strat?

Man, I remember all these guitars. Fender really came out with a ton of guitars then. Sort of like now, but at least then I could tell them apart!

Re: Anyone got an HM Strat?

So wouldn't a Jackson or Charvel satiate that

If the HM Strat is defined by: Strat head, 24 fret, bolt-on, locking trem, then that's a very rare spec. for a Charvel; a Jackson has a pretty different aesthetic (including the headstock and less-rounded body edge routing.) Picky, but why not.

..Also. I want a cam-Kahler Prodigy ii :) I swear they existed but can't find a pic.

I already own 3 Charvel's, so no.

The Guitar - Thanks for the info! I guess it was just the posts pacing that was 'drop in' ready. I wonder if its possible to use short bolts?

Re: Anyone got an HM Strat?

In theory, yes. I'll try saddle screws from a Schaller and a Jackson lo-pro tonight.

*Edit*
The Schaller bullets are too wide for the slots at the rear of the Gotoh and the Lo-Pro's are way too short. One option that could work is having the screws machined down, but that would eliminate the tip that fits into the string blocks. An alternative do cutting them would be this. Or you could go here.

Awesome thanks for trying and providing the info.

Yeah if you had a machinist friend or similiar you could probably get there quick and cheap.

Re: Anyone got an HM Strat?

Some of the 80's HM Strats were great playing and great sounding axes. Should have kept mine. A guy here in town has 5 or 6 of them now, and is always buying whole ones and parts for his arsenal.

Re: Anyone got an HM Strat?

This is the one you want, pretty rare, made in Japan HM Strat with real Floyd instead of the Kahler Spyder - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fender-U-S-...059751?hash=item2118a00027:g:gbsAAOSw8w1X~uvV

FWIW, I'm pretty sure the listing is wrong, to the best of my knowledge the US ones had the Kahler Spyders and the rare MIJ ones had the Floyds. I've had both and the quality is equal, and if I had a choice I'd go for the one with the Floyd just for the Floyd. Mostly because parts are harder to find for the Spyders.

Wow! Those have jumped up since I got mine. Paid $500, then about $60 or so for a hsc. I think those U.S ones got some cooler paint colors.

Re: Anyone got an HM Strat?

Yeah, unfortunately many of the superstrats have. Charvel model series has jumped up alot since then too.

Re: Anyone got an HM Strat?

That's probably a trigger word for their investors and purists. :laugh: There is a couple of mods you can do to the TBX. Here are some links;
Here is the source for Doc's mod;
Fender Forum

Dirk Wacken's 2 part article cover's Doc's mod and one other;
Part 1
Part 2

I went ahead and did Doc's mod. I tried with a 220k 1/4w and it didn't sound too good. It was just too muddy as it was either muddy from 1-4, or clear from 5-10, no middle ground. Then I used a 1/2w 220k and that did the trick. I think its an improvement over the 82k and it's rather easy to do.

not sure why using the same resistance but with a larger wattage affected the sound in anyway

Re: Anyone got an HM Strat?

I have an American Strat from around 2000 called "The Floyd Rose" model strat. Its a Hum Hum with an original Floyd with a custom neck profile radius starting around 10 I think. Its high quality and plays great. I put in a Duncan JB and talk about power and punch. It drives the front end of any of my amps. Its a great guitar and it sustains wonderfully. It came with high frets on the neck, vintage tuners, a tinted neck, and a gold Fender logo on the headstock. Its a cool strat. I think it retailed at near 2,000 when I got it. Every once in a wile I see them listed used for sale. Honestly they feel alot like a Charvel/Fender hybrid.

Re: Anyone got an HM Strat?

Can the Floyd on yours pull up quite a bit? Compared to the pull back on my M-II, my HM, Prodigy, and a MIM Floyd Strat(sold it) seem to have a partial recess.
