Anyone have 59's in a Sheraton??

Re: Anyone have 59's in a Sheraton??

My all-maple 335 copy sounds just fine with an A4 '59n and an A8 Custom bridge.

The A4/A8 mag combo or the A4/UOA5 will smooth that '59 set without losing any clarity in the neck and bite in the bridge.

The '59 set or my personal favorite, the Seth Lover set, are so good that it doesn't matter what magnet you use in'em you just can't make'em sound bad, not even on purpose.

HTH,

I think this would be a good time for me to start swapping mags.. I'm actually suprised how wrong that pickup (59b) sounds in that Heritage guitar..

Ok.. hijacking this thread for a moment.. where's a good source for mags?

Re: Anyone have 59's in a Sheraton??

The A4/A8 mag swaps that Kojak suggests really do make a big difference. I put a UOA5 in my '59 in the bridge which helped a lot, but am still considering the A8 for even more improvement. I expect that would give a bit more boost to the mids and soften those piercing highs a bit more too.

Re: Anyone have 59's in a Sheraton??

I'm looking to replace the stock pups and electronics in my Epiphone Sheraton. The stock ones aren't terrible, but they're not good either and I need more clarity. I have a 59/custom 5 combo in my Les Paul and I am EXTREMELY happy with it...I don't need as much gain as my custom 5 gives me in the Sheraton; I'm wondering how a set of 59's would sound in it?

I have considered some Seth Lovers as well, but the unpotted pups would likely pose a problem. I like to dabble with some wild distortion fairly often (Silversun Pickups and Smashing Pumpkins type stuff).

That said this will also be used for Jazz quite a bit as well....

Definetely A JM Model Neck pickup. Or jazz model.:friday:

Re: Anyone have 59's in a Sheraton??

The Sheraton I used to have was pretty darn bright. Probably from all the maple in it. I went with Seths to warm up the sound and they worked out nicely. Ultimately I sold it in favor of a Yamaha SA2200 that played and felt better in addition to the much more balanced tones. Its so good I have never felt a need to replace them.

59's are bright pickups, sheratons are bright guitars. if you already have a 59, hook it up with a 250 pot or try mag swaps, a LOT cheaper then buying new pickups. i have a 59 set in my sheraton which were too bright but now i LOVE after a bit of adjusting
