Anyone have a "Baby" Acoustic

Re: Anyone have a "Baby" Acoustic

I have a Taylor Big Baby acoustic, and it gets the job done pretty well for me :). It's not quite full size, I think it's 11/12 or 15/16 size, something oddball like that. I've got it set up very nice right now so it plays like an electric and it's slightly smaller stature makes it extremely comfortable to play. The "satin" finish is nice too.

I'm a diehard Martin player. However, when it comes to the smaller scale guitars, I think the Baby Taylor, is a better guitar.

Re: Anyone have a "Baby" Acoustic

I've got a Baby Taylor in mahogany, and a Big Baby. I like them a lot. I use the Big Baby (15/16 scale) for songwriting and recording. It sounds fullsize on tape. I like the Baby tuned "nashville" (the high strings only, from a 12 string set) it works good layered over other acoustic tracks to fill out really nice and shimmery. Plus it works great for travel, but then I usually tune it standard. Noric Renson, one of the top L.A. guitar techs, really sold me on the Baby's when he said, "the Big Baby is one of taylors best playing and sounding guitars." At $350 w/case The Big Baby is by far the best buy for an entry level acoustic. I also think the Larrivee parlor model is pretty cool, but being mainly an electric man myself, I'll probably stick with the 2 taylor's for now. I've played the Ibanez travel guitar, it doesn't really sound that good unplugged, but I think it is about the same price as the taylor, which has no pickup, and can't be ordered with one. So it seems to be a pretty good buy, even if most people don't really think of an Ibanez as a reall acoustic brand.
