Anyone have any advice on an Epi Les Paul Custom?

Re: Anyone have any advice on an Epi Les Paul Custom?

Thanks for all the input (and the crazy KISS humor :D )I was looking at an Antique Ivory picture on MF, but it's not offered in that color anymore. So, I'm torn between the Black and Alpine White models. I'm really loveing the binding and the works on the custom. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the link JeffB, but $599 is as high as I'm wanting to go right now. But, I'm going to check out some ebay auctions for some edwards tonight.

Also, I don't live near an Epiphone dealer, so I might have to order from an online place:grumble: any suggestions on how to get a good one?

Well if ya hafta order online..it's a crapshoot. Good thing is they have a nice return policy.

As for Paula vs Reed. Both nice guits for the money, but they don't sound anything alike. If you want Les Paul tone, don't expect it outta the Reed. You'll get closer with an SG or Flying V.

Like Jeff said, ordering online is a crapshoot. Trust him, he knows....LOL.

Something's up with the indexing of this thread or something. I've seen there are replied but the last one I can read in the normal view is Robbiedbee's reply. Can't see the second page but I can see the replies in the Reply to Topic screen. Weird.

Been having the same issue with forum for about a week. It's intermittent.

Indeed...it sooooooo adds to the tone mojo :bigthumb:

I also find my legs get quite wobbly when I play it :22:

Is it just me, or when you guys sing along with frehley's Comet on the song "Trouble Walkin'" Do you sing "I - Have trouble walkin'" too....

Re: Anyone have any advice on an Epi Les Paul Custom?

I'd say epiphone has about the same % of killer tone/feel guitars as Gibson has dogs. Both are low, but for the cost of a "real" gibson I expect near perfection, if not total perfection. The "slight" flaws, while not necessarily tone/feel changers, are inexcuseable at that price.

And if you can find a GTX 36 by Kaman, think about it. I'd go Tokai first, though...

Re: Anyone have any advice on an Epi Les Paul Custom?

I like my epiphone a lot. Mine has a mohogany neck/body with a decent looking quilted maple veneer. I love the way it sounds. It has a nice, thick full sound unplugged. It does have a few minor QC issues like a weird binding flaw where it looks like part of the yellow was torn/chipped/whatever away to reveal a white layer. There is also a glob of glue on the end of the fretboard. Other than those things, it's perfect, and it only cost $400.

I'm not generally an epi fan, but I must admit this gave me a tinge of classic GAS:

Pretty cool for £265! ($463 USD)

Ditto.

Quality control is actually better on a $600 Epi than a $1200+ Gibson.
