My opinion is that it looks sweet :D

I have always wanted a Blonde piggy back Fender. I clearly love the way they look. If this thing sounds sweet when I go look at it chances are I'll buy it.

Re: Anyone have any opinions on these..........

:cool3: The Tremolux gives great tone. The only thing I don't like about it is the lack of reverb. But if you get your reverb somewhere else, it's an awesome amp.

Re: Anyone have any opinions on these..........

FWIW, I thought that Tremoluxes were one of the more desirable circuits.

my former amp tech, who now works for Bad Cat, had a blonde Tremolux on his wish list. A bit of trivia: there were some Tremoluxes made with 6BQ5s (EL-84s), but they are as rare as white elephants.

however, what exactly do we have here? Some transition chassis had black faceplates with cream knobs, but I don't believe Fender was using the blackface style knobs in '63.????

also, I would want to know if the tolex is rough or smooth, as that will also help date it

sometimes I know just enough to be dangerous. the rest I have to look up, and Fender was just inconsistent enough to really confuse matters.:smack:

that said, I think the bottom line is that the Tremolux had enough gain in the circuit to give it good tone.

Re: Anyone have any opinions on these..........

The EL84 Tremoloux (6G9) is as rare as hens teeth...I have only seen one in my travels. The piggyback Tremoloux ran from 1961 to 1967 but was only blond form 1961-1963. What Greg has picture above is a LATE 1963, very early Blackface in it's original blond cab...it's a transitional model for sure. The early ones (that included the EL84 model) came with a 1x10 "tone ring" cab while sometime in 1962 they switched to the more common 2x10 cab thats just like a smaller 2x12 Bandmaster/Bassman cab just smaller.

Re: Anyone have any opinions on these..........

Are you sure this isn't a 1964? Can they give you the number off the tube chart.

Re: Anyone have any opinions on these..........

part of what I was trying to say is that I thought the transition models had smooth cream tolex, black faceplates and cream knobs ....

although I trust TGWIF when it comes to the details.

bottom line: probably a good sounding amp if set up properly

I'm a little curious about the cylindrical orange caps ... they look different to me, but the rest of the circuit looks practically untouched, so I suppose they could be original

oh ... I love the blonde era cosmetics!

Re: Anyone have any opinions on these..........

In those days, you have to be careful trusting a tube chart. They are pretty inconsistent on those circuit numbers as well.

I LOVE blonde piggyback fenders. Even if it's crap, go for it and use it as an ornament :P
