Anyone have experience with the RevStar focus switch?

I have a student who just picked up the standard rev star 2hb and it's a monster as you probably know.. From my pov, just about everything you would want in a Les Paul but better build better feel etc...

However, this one has the focus switch on it and for the life of me I can't find positives that it brings to the table..

Out of the mix, it just seems to add mush, but I've never giged or recorded one so there could be some hidden strength in there that I don't understand...

If I understand correctly it's a transformer that is probably focusing on mids.. I read a bit about them when they first came out but didn't pay a lot of attention...

Frankly it looks like the perfect place to put a bass cut, but he's new and excited and I will wait to see if he can find some goodness in it before i make any suggestions :-)

Open to any stories of your experience with the focus switch...

Try around 13:00 minutes in. A couple good applications for it he shows is getting lead neck tone while staying on the bridge, and using it with the 4 position out of phase type sound.

Thanks Beau.. That's exactly the timbre.. I can think of at least three other ways that I would normally get that effect and it's definitely not enough to be a selling point for me...

But now I get it and we'll see if he learns to love it...

Big thanks!
