Anyone have one of those Yamaha desktop modelling amps?

I was at Guitar Center yesterday playing a 68 SF Deluxe RI, and the Yamaha THR10 and THR10 Classic were setting next to it. I plugged them in and was pleasantly surprised, especially by the Classic. I'm going to be moving into an apartment here soon, and I'd like to have a way to practice super quietly. I have a Cube 60, but we are still talking about a 60watt 1x12, even turned way down it's still not super quiet. (My other amps are probably out of the question in an apartment situation; a Super Sonic Twin and a 20watt 1x12" Deluxish tube amp).

Anyone have one of these? I'm pretty interested. I like that I could use it for some simple bedroom recording as well, if the quality is any good.

I was very seriously considering their 100W big brother before my old Marshall was sold back to me for a really friendly price. The THR100HD was pretty impressive.

I've tried a few, and I like em! Small and great for practice and recording...sits right on a desk. Really good size, and works as an amplifier for an ipod. Pretty cool idea.

Just FYI, I regularly practice with a Cube 60 in my apartment and it's fine.
Just take it easy with the bass.

I just sold mine and don't have one negative thing to say about it. I had the THR10 v2 the 2 4-inch speakers give a surprisingly full sound. It looks amazing... And for what it is its an great value with

Sorry... It's a great value with very little compromise. The effects are limited of course, and I had a hard time getting a good sound out of the two Marshall models.. But the Boogie model was a blast and the Vox model eventually got me into the Vox AC15 I upgraded to.
The Fender model was fine, but I usually preferred to play my cleans on the Vox model anyway.

Doesn't the Cube have a headphone out? That's what I would use to practice with in an apartment. The Yamaha does look nice though. Is it battery powered too?

It does not used batteries as far as I can tell.

The Cube does have a headphone out, which I could use, though I would need a good pair of headphones, though, none of mine would work for that use.

I'm in serious GAS mode for one of these things. It would fit so nicely next to my computer!

I would rather get one with a battery option. That way I could take it to the beach or camping etc.

They sound great in the demo's (that classic one especially ...did'nt care for the high gain version) ...bet they'd be a blast to record with.

Meh, if I'm going somewhere without available electricity, I just take my acoustic guitar. I would probably enjoy busking with a battery powered amp, but again, I think I'd probably just take my acoustic anyway.

The recording feature is a huge part of why I'm thinking about one of these. I'm probably going to get a two input USB interface at some point, but I'd almost rather record easy stuff with something like the Yamaha. Obviously if I'm doing a gear demo, using one of my nice tube amps would be preferred, but for recording riffs and samples and stuff like that, I think I could get along very well with something like the Yamaha.

I'm also a much bigger fan of the classic one. I played both at GC, and while the cleans were basically exactly the same, I much preferred the other settings on the classic versus the regular model.

To my ears, the Classic one is the one to get. I didn't like the other models as much, but I don't use a lot of gain.

I got the classic and it's a cool little amp. The effects are OK and I'll occasionally play my bass through it too. It can run off batteries although I've never tried as I'll bet it eats them! Definitely worth having around.

I had a THR10X. Great friggin' little amp. Small, loud and a bucket load of great sounds.

Had the carry bag for mine and that was awesome for travel.

I plan on picking up another one once my wife and I get settled in a new place

THR10C and THR10X owners, can you comment more in detail about the quality of the specific amps included - Matchless, Dr. Z, Krank, etc.?

What kind of detail are you wanting? There are so many clips and reviews out there, it's hard NOT to know what these sound like!

There's a point at which you just need to plug in and try one yourself, but I can confirm the few things they do, they do VERY well.

What I'm looking for is commentary along the lines of, "This model really does/does not sound/respond like X amp." I've seen many nice demos of the THRs, but most of them are just extended playthroughs on one setting or switching through the models without saying what is what.

I've actually played all 3 kinds of the THR10 in stores, and none compelled me to buy them, i.e., none felt enough like real amps. They sounded good but didn't feel good to me. I really want to like this product, as the feature set seems incredibly well thought out. So I'm wondering if players not paid by Yamaha can testify as to any feels-like-real-amps quality.

Well if you have already played these and they did not feel like real amps, then this unit is not for you even if you want it to be. Me or anyone else saying it does won't change how these work you. I'd say pass on it, there are some good lunchbox size tube amps out there, those are what you want if feel & dynamics are what your looking for.

The mini THR amps concept is cool though.

I'd agree. If you tried all 3 and not one has jumped out at you, it is unlikely that you can find the one magical setting that will. There are probably other options out there. I take the presets as what they are. A small box with tiny speakers won't sound like a Tin, or a Vox, or a Mesa. You will have to spend a whole lot more in modeling dollars to get models that sound a lot closer.
They still may sound 'good' (they do to me), if not exactly like what they replicate.
