Anyone here own a Vetta II system?

I am thinking of ordering one of these for personal use. I know all the stuff it does, but I would like a personal acount of it from someone who has used it extensively

Re: Anyone here own a Vetta II system?

there might be one here that owns it that will chime in...I will say that I have played them and listened to them live, and their bogner and mesa dual recto models are not as convincing as other alternatives out there...have you considered the valvetronix by vox, or the do it all tube amps:

bogner ecstasy
mesa boogie mark iv/roadster/road king

I am in a similar boat, but am more on the road to tube sound though

Re: Anyone here own a Vetta II system?

I think i'd always rather have a simple amp so when i'm frustrated i can just plug the wire in direct and be happy when the multi fx messes with my head.

Re: Anyone here own a Vetta II system?

Robb (Gomano) has one I think. He doesn't come around that often anymore though. You might shoot him a PM.

Re: Anyone here own a Vetta II system?

I think they're the best amp for a player who wants a lot of tones and FX for either home playing or a cover band. One thing you've got to realize is that it's an advanced piece of gear (much like a Roland keyboard) where you need to own it and learn it. Trying modelers in the stores will just give you a rough idea. Modelers really need special tweaking, such as combining certain OD models with amp models, so they come alive. If you just listen to the amp model by itself, it sounds a little dry and 1 dimensional.

The biggest problem I have with the Vettas is that Line 6 is trying to recoup a lot of research and design, and the amps seem overpriced. Now that they've been out for awhile, you can always find a better deal on a used Vetta I or II.

I like using modelers at home, just because of noise restrictions, so I get a lot of use out of my Valvetronix AD60VTH head, since it has a variable wattage selector and headphone out. I'm debating whether to swap it for an upgraded Vetta I or II. I'm fearing that they're too loud.

Re: Anyone here own a Vetta II system?

i've gigged w/ a vetta ever since it first came out (upgraded it to a vetta II)...played it for 3+ years with no real issues....easy to set up, always worked, got many compliments about the tone...but i went back to a tube amp because i could never really "bond" with it. it does take a long time to tweak. i tweaked mine for a month in my basement before it was ready to play out.

they're great amps, especially if you're in a cover band (like me)...sometimes i think about going back to it just for the ease of use.

gearjoneser, don't worry about the vetta being too loud. the master volume is really good and it makes a great bedroom amp. you can play it at VERY low volumes and still get the same tone as you would at much higher volumes.

Re: Anyone here own a Vetta II system?

tweaking for a month? not for me; I recommend a versatile tube amp that has one notorious sound. I am a finatic of good distortion thats why I listed the amps above. Then, just get a PODxt for the sounds that you want to duplicate but don't have the money or space for all the amps.

I've got an original Vetta upgraded to the newest software and it's a killer amp IMHO. I think its strengths are some great cleans, crushing distortions and the effects are fantastic. Lots of routing, 80 different amps (some great, some suck) lotsa cabinet choices and its stereo. Again, IMHO if you can get three or four sounds from this amp that you simply LOVE, its better than getting a one trick or two trick pony. I think you can get way more than that though. I only use it for rock, blues and metal. AFAIK it's also the only amp where you can use two amps at once, like two days ago I mixed a Mesa Boogie and Peavey for a great metal patch.

This amp seems to be love or hate. I don't think any of the amp models are spot on, but they are in the ballpark. To me its really like they created their own tones starting with some classic ones--just like most amp companies do anyway. Have I retired my tube amps--hell no! I love to use the Vetta AND a tube amp in "stereo" to get a really massive sound. Good stuff.

Re: Anyone here own a Vetta II system?

I own a music store, so price isnt the problem, nor is familiarity. I just wanna know how people that own one have used it. I love my PODs and I want a "gig rig" and this is what I have my eye on

Re: Anyone here own a Vetta II system?

^^you have a pod? what style music do you play? if all you need is good cleans, marshallesque crunch, and metal chug...well ...I liked playing the mark IV more than the vetta...

you could use the search engine to find more info if none of the users pipe up ;)

Re: Anyone here own a Vetta II system?

One question I have is "what will a Vetta II do that a fully upgraded Vetta I won't do?" Vetta I's seem to be going for decent prices, used.

Re: Anyone here own a Vetta II system?

I personally don't have any experience with a Vetta, but love my POD Pro. IMHO, I believe that they should be run into a tube power amp for max results.

The only difference supposedly is the connector for the Variax guitar in the rear, which you can buy for another hundred bucks and install. A lot of people just like the look of the Vetta II better. I'm not one of them. I like the "Judge Dredd" look, lol.

THE way to go IMHO is to get on old version I used and do the upgrade.

Re: Anyone here own a Vetta II system?

I think they look great. I think the Cabs that Dave Mustaine is using look better than that the regular Vetta II cabs, but they do still look killer.

Re: Anyone here own a Vetta II system?

Yeah, I hate the way the Line 6 cabs look. I got a Hughes & Kettner Triamp cabinet and loaded it with the Celestion/Line 6 speakers compliments of Avatar speakers. I dig the way the Vetta II looks as well, just like the I better. It's shiny.

Re: Anyone here own a Vetta II system?

I've been using a Vetta I for three years now. In fact, you'll find me over at the InstituteOfNoise forum more often than you'll find me here. Of course, they're a little biased towards the Vetta over there ;-). Anyway the only difference between the Vetta I and II is the Variax connectability. After upgrading the software for free on L6's website, everything else is the same. I got the HD for about $700. Well worth it, but it's been a love/hate relationship. Only now after 3 years am I getting some tones out of the thing that are better than any other I've ever had. It's a tweaker's amp. It can take months before you start getting the hang of it. There are so many possibilities in that amp, you'll never use them all. But if you have a good ear, you can get almost any tone out of it. I use it with a Marshall 1960A cab, and it sounds great. Like I said, it took me awhile but it's more love than hate now.

Re: Anyone here own a Vetta II system?

I've heard Neil Geraldo (Pat Benatar) with his, and it sounded great, but I've never heard another one sound that good. There is a local guy that uses the Pod Pro into a Mesa 50 cal that sounds good, but he had access to all the original amps that the Pod was modeled after, and he took weeks to tweak all the settings.
