Anyone know about Gould guitars?

I have absolutely no need for another guitar (and I'm even trying to get rid of one at the moment), but that usually never stops anyone on this forum.

I'm looking into getting a cheap beater to try my first refin, and possibly upgrade the pups and use it as a back-up etc.

So, getting to the point, does anyone know anything about Gould guitars? After a google session I can't even find where the companies from, let alone anything else and no info beyond a couple of individual models.

What does the well of knowledge that is the SDUGF know?

Re: Anyone know about Gould guitars?

there have been a bunch of "gould" guitars. george gould made in michigan, gould guitars hand made in israel, a bunch of cheap asian stuff from the 60's and 70's... but thats about all i know

Re: Anyone know about Gould guitars?

I have a cheapie Gould Telecaster that I picked up for about £80 years ago as I wanted a beater guitar just for laying around the house with.

Even though it's not the greatest sounding guitar acoustically I do like how it plays, so I put a high output Broadcaster single coil in the bridge and stripped out the switch.

Geoff Gould was the founder of Modulus and the graphite neck. He left Modulus years ago and has returned with his own brand of Gould guitars. Not cheap and definitely not a beater guitar. Most likely not the Gould you were thinking of, but worth noting nonetheless.

Re: Anyone know about Gould guitars?

From what I can deduce, this 'Gould' ceased a year or two ago since you can still get t hem NOS. Possibly only available in th UK/Europe. Made cheap tele/strat/paul copies and an arch top superstrat with a tune-o-matic style bridge (which is what I'm looking at). For some reason I seem to think the company is Korean, but at the price, they're more likely Chinese...

It sounds like you're talking about the same brand as my Tele above.

I think it's indonesian if I recall.

Re: Anyone know about Gould guitars?

My parents bought me a handmade spanish flamenco guitar from George Gould in Michigan back in the early 70's? for $75. I believe he lived in berkley or royal oak. for some reason I thought I wanted a steel string guitar and sold it to my friend for 25 bucks. My mom wanted to kill me. I have regretted it ever since. It was an awesome guitar and wish I had it now. It was the prettiest guitar I ever owned and the sound was amazing…go figure….

Revenge of the zombie thread resuscitation syndrome by proxy?

For what it is worth, AdamBrad and Brow were referring to the Asian guitars that are loosely based on well-known American designs.

Re: Anyone know about Gould guitars?

This company still operates - I sent an email on their contact page and I got a response within a few hours.

Very unproffessional response in my opinion. They said "Can you send a pic? Yes we make guitars."

As I asked if I could have information on my guitar (attached) and if they still made guitars as I mentioned their website didn't look like they still operated.

did you send them a pic
if you asked them about "your" guitar and if they still made guitars
then their response was totally reasonable
they dont know which guitar you have
and want to send the correct information
whats unprofessional about that
