Anyone know any good replacements for Fender 2 button footswitches?

It has horrible reviews, I got one today with my Twin Reverb (thread soon) but the switch for vibe is not working at all, the vibe is always on when the footswitch is plugged in and the reverb only works every couple clicks. Any options out there?

They are super simple to fix, yet kind of highly priced, so I might just replace the switches with Carling ones. You can get them at Antique Electronics Supply (as well as an entire Fender brand replacement footswitch, or a generic vintage-style replacement for less than half the cost).

More often than not new foot switches need a few dozen clicks...

Hold the switch in your hand and switch each switch on and off a dozen or so times then see what you get...

it's not a new footswitch though, it was a used amp that came with it. I am going to try some contact cleaner first...

Re: Anyone know any good replacements for Fender 2 button footswitches?

Brand new or not...a dozen or so stomps of the switch can help and since it can't hurt I see no reason not to try it and a good contact cleaner sprayed down IN the switch can help too.

Contact cleaner on everything and dozens of clicks and plug/unplugs.

If you have an ohm/continuity meter, check to see that the tip, ring, and sleeve on the 1/4" plug is or isn't doing what it's supposed to do, just so you know it's the footswitch.

Keep in mind if you're searching for a non-fender replacement that all Fender 2 button footswitches are not the same and all will not interchange. Also, few non-fender designs function with many Fender amps. Fender uses a unique design in many of their footswitches that is based on voltage changes (accomplished w/ diodes in the fs) rather than simple latching circuits. They did this to allow the use of a common guitar/instrument cable as a replacement rather than requiring a stereo type cable.

As for your specific Fender FS, I don't know, but often the FS schematic is included on the Amp schematic downloadable on Fender's website. But really, if the above suggestions don't work, you're better off (less grief) buying a new Fender replacement with the correct part #.

WOW - that is the first foot switch that I seen used ties with those darn plastic wraps still on the cable. You must be reaching into the back of the amp to change Vib and Rev….

I'm not doubting what you say (you seem to know more about fender switches than I do) but if you look carefully at the photo Andrew posted you'll see a stereo 1/4'' end there, which makes me think it could still be just a simple latching mechanism.

You could PM me with this ANdrew if you want/need...cheers!

You are correct. I was speaking in general terms and did not notice the stereo plug on this specific model (Sorry should have looked closer). So, chances are it just may be twin latching circuits. Just goes to support the fact that 'all Fender 2 button switches' are not the same. This model should be easy to check w/ an ohmeter to see if it is a pair latching circuits. If so, there are lots of dual latching 2 button FS around.

The new Fender Replacement is around $50 and generic ones may be had for $25. For my money, I'd get a new Fender replacement if I couldn't get the original to work. If you check it out and verify it is simply two latching circuits, should be really simple to repair if cleaning doesn't clear the problem.

Re: Anyone know any good replacements for Fender 2 button footswitches?

As you are dealing with a new to you -USED- amp, I suggest the problem could easily be in the amp itself.
Another -know working- footswitch would verify which is the problem, switch or amp.

Re: Anyone know any good replacements for Fender 2 button footswitches?

I have a Fender Custom Vibrolux Reverb with a two button 1/4" Reverb/Vibrato switch. The Vibrato had stopped working unless you pressed on the jack hard. I took apart the 1/4" jack assembly and found the wiring at the jack was really bad. They had way too much wire exposed and there was short circuits. I wrapped the exposed wire with electrical tape and everything is working fine now.
