Re: Anyone know anything about vintage Framus Electrics?
One of my guitars is a Framus body from the sixties.
It is a Les Paul shape but not solid all the way through.
As you can see I've a whole new scratch plate and Humbuckers. I had a Fender single coil in the Neck and a single coil Gibson in the bridge for about 15 years ,then I put the HB's in.
The pics not mine ,but it's almost the same. There's another block where a centre pickup would sit.
It is quite acoustic because of the body design and makes more noise unplugged than a standard solid body.It gives it a tonal quality that solids don't have.
I had a new neck put on mine about four years ago[It's original neck was removed some 30+ years ago.].When I went to pick it up the Luthier guy was walking around his workshop playing it. He didn't want to give it back.
Framus quality was very inconsistent in the 60's Some good ,some bad.
The pickups from memory were some what weak in output but a reasonable sound.[I'm referring to the pups like on the triple pickup version]
Mine was originally a two pickup version of this one.
The scratch plate is "metal".
You'll find a lot of models are named " Hollywood"
A good condition LP shape or the Cutaway shape can fetch over $1000.
I'd love to dig up another one, but they're "rare".
I've seen some used that are pretty cheap.
Can I ask where?[I live in Australia]
