Anyone know USA Gibson humbukers.... whats this?

The guy states its out of a 91 Les Paul Custom. On the back plate it has "Gibson USA HB-L The Original"..... Im aware of the 500T's and 498 etc etc...
But havent come accross this before..... And is it worth buying or is there a reason people swap these ones out?

Either Gibson or the Chinese are trying too hard to make it look like the 'real' thing...never saw one like that.

I think those were Bill Lawrence designed if I remember correctly. Can't tell you much else try the Les Paul Forum.

Those pickups also came on Gibsons also. I had a 91 Explorer that came with the same pickups. They are indeed a Bill Lawrence design. Dont think for a minute that they sound like a Bill Lawrence pickup though. From what I understand, Gibson took his design and made changes to it. Personally, I didnt like the sound of them.

Yup my old black Standard had these. Very similar to 490s in tone..fat..but with A5 mags, so not quite as much mids.

I liked them..alot..especially the neck. I ended up trying a few Duncan pups before settling on a SH5 in the bridge just cos I wanted some more output and mids. But for a PAF type tone they sounded great in my particular standard.

I had an '88 ES-335 with them. They came out in the late 80's and are slightly hotter than the 57's or BB's. I didn't like them, swapped in some 57's which sounded better.

I think Theodie's right, they are a Bill Lawrence thing.
