Anyone knows what pups George lynch use in Back for the attack album

hi, I have a sh-12 pickup on a all maple body with ebony finger board guitar. I think this is not the pickup he use in recording in back for the attack album, because the sh-12 sounds very bright and shrill, and if I try to tweak down the treble knob on the amp, the sound is not so good.
Anyone knows what pickups George lynch recording in Back for the attack album?

and also want to know what pickups Warren demartini use in recording the Detonator album?

thank you very much

Re: Anyone knows what pups George lynch use in Back for the attack album

I've read that he used a Duncan Distortion. His tone on that album has the crunch and aggresive harmonics of the DD.

Re: Anyone knows what pups George lynch use in Back for the attack album

He might have already been using some prototypes at the time, but the Demon really didn't officially debut until the Lynch Mob era. He used a few different models, including the JB and the DD. I think there was even something back in the day about him trying PGs.

This really might be a question for SD, by calling in to the cust serv line or possibly the custom shop. Unless I had a brain fart about what MJ told me, the custom shop Dokken bucker is what they were making for him around 88-89, which is about the time frame you are talking about. And you may be in luck, as I just finished a video demo for that pickup that just waiting on some confirmation of a few details from MJ before I put the finishing touching on the post-production. But it's a bit if a blend of the JB and the DD. it has a ceramic mag and is the same output as the JB and DD, making it louder than the Demon.

Hope that helps.

If you don't mind ponying up for the CS the Dokken model is going to get you dang close. That said in my alder bodied Cleveland strat I was running a 250K volume and no tone knob and couldn't tame it down to suit me. I think George's EQ is a major component that is often overlooked.

Re: Anyone knows what pups George lynch use in Back for the attack album

George is a friend, and he told me that he used a Distortion on "Back for the Attack". He also used a Marshall Plexi that he rented from Aspen Pittman at Groove Tubes.

Re: Anyone knows what pups George lynch use in Back for the attack album

One can never be certain.
George could be using anything. I've even seen him using a Bill Lawrence ;)

Re: Anyone knows what pups George lynch use in Back for the attack album

Are you Johnny Guitars formerly on Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood?

Re: Anyone knows what pups George lynch use in Back for the attack album

Your guitar is basically pretty bright. The SH-12 is going to be bright in your guitar. Normally I would also suggest the DD to get Lynch's sound, but I think it's also going to sound too bright in your guitar. But the DD with an A4 mag or a 250k vol pot should pretty much nail it.

Swapping the mag in a DD to do that job is like taking a knife and breaking off the tip flat cause you needed a screw driver. Just get the right damn tool the first time.

Re: Anyone knows what pups George lynch use in Back for the attack album

This is hearsay, but I remember someone saying that he used a Seymourizer quite a bit, which is the same pickup as a DDn.

Re: Anyone knows what pups George lynch use in Back for the attack album

As much as I like George Lynch, he is/was an endorsement hag. I think Seymour Duncan is the guys longest running endorsement. He's used so many different things over the years. The man is a renowned gear head. I'll add to the list of pickups I've seen him use. I've seen a lesson that he did around that time frame and he was using one of the Parallel Axis pickups, don't know which one. I've also seen him use a Full Shred. Not to mention the mounds of different amps the man has used.

Re: Anyone knows what pups George lynch use in Back for the attack album

^^^That.

Just for the record, I've owned several Lynch ESP's, and just because ESP put the Demon into them doesn't mean it isn't about the worst pickup choice ever for a maple body, maple (or ebony board) and a floyd.

If I had one now I'd be looking at an RTM or a BK Holydiver.

Re: Anyone knows what pups George lynch use in Back for the attack album

maybe this could give you a hint? :)

or the recording of the "Back For The Attack" album in the summer of 1987, George went for a more stripped down form of setup in the studio.
The direction he took involved a very minimal amount of gear. Effects were of the old-school variety on this album. And the amp selection was
kept at Marshall simplicity. Just like the album before this, he got stuck using amps he could not own.

"I borrowed heads from Aspen Pittman of Groove Tubes. He had a collection of all these old Marshalls that I just worshipped! He let me use an
old purple and old red one. But he will not sell them," recalls George.

Effects like Vox wahs, Fuzz Faces and Mu-Tron Octave Dividers were present here. But the only consistently used pedal was the Ibanez TS-808,
which remains with George to this day. This version of the Tube Screamer contains the Malaysian RC4558D chip-based op-amp technology from 1980.
The TS-808 produces a silky, creamy distortion, especially when used with an already overdriven tube amp. It is not a gainy distortion pedal, but a very distinctive overdrive.

As can be seen in the previous tour, the 1987-88 Back For The Attack tour included more firepower for evenmuch larger stages,
including those on the 1988 Monsters of Rock tour. What could be seen from the audience was a wall of snakeskin-covered Marshall speakers
topped by matching Marshall heads with red and green LEDs. Purely a stage prop, the actual stage rig was hidden on the far right-side of the stage.

Housed in two racks were six Marshall amp heads: Park 50-watt, 45-watt JTM, 100-watt Super Bass, 100-watt Tremolo, 1968 Super Lead, and a
1971 Super Lead. Included in these racks were the effects to add ambience to the stage: ADA MP-1 pre-amp, two Rocktron Hush IICs, two Lexicon PCM-41s,
a Real Time Analyzer and a Korg digital delay.

Re: Anyone knows what pups George lynch use in Back for the attack album

How the frack is that a hint? He talks about amps and effects and the question that was asked here was about pups? Its about as useful as the farmers almanac for determining what pups he used.

And your helpful positive suggestion would be...?

If you break off the tip of a knife and it gives you the perfect tool for the job, ...the problem is...?

The DD with the right magnet to tailor it to the specific guitar and the sought-after tone IS the right tool for the job. Where have you been?

Re: Anyone knows what pups George lynch use in Back for the attack album

Personally, I think an A4 JB might be a really cool neck pickup.

Re: Anyone knows what pups George lynch use in Back for the attack album

:)Thanks everyone kindly reply, I live in Japan, sorry my English is poor, My guitar is '92 valley arts custom pro came with the EMG 85, It sounds ok, but I love the guitar sound of Back for the attack album for long time, so I also use a soldano slo-100 amp for nail the BFTA tone, especially Kiss of death riff, But this EMG + slo 100 is too modern sounding, not like the BFTA album's dry and scratchy tone, and then I thought if I mount a sh-12 that wiill be very close to BFTA, because GL's ESP signature guitar or Kamikaze are also all maple body and ebony finger board, but I found out no matter how I tweak the amp it just can not be like the BFTA album sound, even wicked sensation album, So, once I doubt dose GL really use this sh-12 pup for recording. :scratchch

Is this THE infamous rental Marshall?

Re: Anyone knows what pups George lynch use in Back for the attack album

Ah yes. What record did he do with that amp?

Re: Anyone knows what pups George lynch use in Back for the attack album

Wow I just spent too much time reading about one, two or possibly three amplifiers. ;)
