Anyone play '80's hard rock mainly

Re: Anyone play '80's hard rock mainly

I love 80's rock. I play it a bit too, and I use the JB for the screamier tones and a '59 for the crunchier ones. Damn, I think I'll have to go for Kiss of Death right now...

...much better. As a matter of fact, there's been a Major for sale here in Finland for some time. If it's still there when I get some more money, I could very well take it home... or to our rehearsal place... or just anywhere where I could play it loud enough! Or then I'll just buy the '65 JTM45 with matching cabs they have for sale too.

Anyone know what Warren DeMartini's rig was in '86 during the Dancing Undercover album-- I loved that tone on through to the slighty different tone on Detonator.

I'm not a fan of their early tone, nor any early 80's tones-- too crude.

Warren has a Plexi w/ MAJA MOJO and the story goes it's so damn good that George Lynch and Jake E. Lee were always trying to "steal" it from him. He started messing around with MESAs for whatever album Way Cool Jr. was on.

It's funny you mention the JP "Turbo" tone. I had listened to "Priest...Live!", which was the Turbo tour, and then our recording of "Heading Out to the Highway" and I was floored at how close I had gotten to that tone. Doesn't bother me though, I love that tone.

Thanks for the compliment. :)

didn't JP use synthesized guitars on Turbo?

Glenn Tipton used guitar synth, yes. Used for "Turbo Lover" mostly. Those things were very early in their infancy and were more a pain than anything. It was similar to the one Lynch used, but Lynch used one for different effects.

Re: Anyone play '80's hard rock mainly

Thanks for the clarification: Now- Distortion #1, I suppose a JB, but I'm going Custom in my Dean Caddy. Ratt Dancing Undercover - Highly Underated Album! And as always with BHM - it's often more about the processing than the pup. There are chicks that wake up and look stunning without a drop of makeup, and there are those that have a gallon of paint on. Weather bare or brushed, hot is hot. It's not how much paint you use - is the picture pretty! Need to really tweek your delay for Ratt. Love the Invasion & Dancing Tones!

Ratt's my favorite band-- DU being my fave album follow by Ivasion.

Dancing Undercover is just sheer sickness in the riff department!
