Anyone played a Dean Thoroughbred?

Re: Anyone played a Dean Thoroughbred?

Never heard of it, but that's a handsome lookin' guitar.

Re: Anyone played a Dean Thoroughbred?

I have a good amount of Dean guitars. I have been on the Dean forum for a while. While I don't own one of the Thoroughbreds, I know of players on the Dean forum who have had them. I can't remember which neck this one has. It's either the fat C neck or the V neck. Most Dean guitars have a pretty good sized neck. Usually not as big as a Gibson, but bigger than an Epiphone if that helps.

Dean has gone through a few Les Paul inspired models. I really liked the original EVO they had. The Thoroughbred is their latest incarnation of the L.P. It does come with pickups from the USA shop, which I really dig. They are kind of based on already existing pickups, but without the compression and are a bit more open sounding. If you buy that guitar, there is a good chance you will really love the pickups, and not even worry about replacing them. That will save you some cash right there.

Here's the guy from Jackyl talking about his USA Thoroughbred. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3vGTjBIS548

I have to say, that's a pretty good price for a new guitar. Usually those run about $600 new. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. But I think it would be neat to "Get Your Wings!"

Re: Anyone played a Dean Thoroughbred?

The guy who owns Dean used to own a retail dealership called Thoroughbred Music.
Yeah, that's where he got the name from. He used to put on the 'Florida Guitar Show' at his music stores every year- I did some clinics there for him.

Elliott is a class act. How many guitar company execs are actually touring musicians?

Have not played a Thoroughbred but I also have played the EVO, The Soltero, and the Deceiver, the predecessor to the Thoroughbred, and they all are decent guitars.

Re: Anyone played a Dean Thoroughbred?

It may be fine, but it just looks a little off...the shape/dimensions just don't work for me.

Re: Anyone played a Dean Thoroughbred?

Every dean based LP variant I have played has been pretty sweet. I'm personally a fan of the Soltero's.
