Anyone Played one of these yet?

KRANK REV JR.

I am really interested in this little monster, I have a heavily modded Valve junior, but I really dont dig the vintage tube sound unless Im noodeling around with blues scales. I want a good modern metal sounding tube amp just for recording ,and living room performances :headbang:
This looks like it could be the ticket, the half stack is about $700
anything better in that price range? like mesa or marshall combo, i really dont want anything over 50 watts

New gear man, you might have to 'take one for the team' and tell US how it is...hah!

I like the Orange Tiny Terror but a lot of people think it's too loud for how "small" it's supposed to be. Plus the Orange tone is more 'rock' and less 'metal' so that might not be what you want.

I've heard the TT is pretty sweet. Orange amps can most definitely do metal. I was told the rocker 30 wouldn't do metal, and they were all wrong. If doesn't do that crappy mid scooped sterile tone that a lot of metal heads go for, but it does a real thick crunchy mid heavy sound with good harmonics. I have heard the TT is a bit loud, but I'm sure if you only ran it thru a 1x12 or even a 2x12, it wouldn't be that bad.

I'm intrested in one but I'm afraid that for an apt dweller like myself, its 20 watts will be far louder than I can make use of.

The Peavy Mini Collosal (sp?) is another mini tube amp to consider as well, 5 watts I belive.

Like you, I tried a Valve Jr but I'm just not into the breaking up blues tones it can do. If you like that sort of thing it is an excellent tone, but I want more of a full on Marshall tone for hard rock/punk tones.

Sadly all the modelers work well for me volume wise but I find them all lacking in tone, especially a classic hard rock tone ala GNR, Social Distortion etc


I would have to wonder how the Krank with a hot plate would work though for small spaces. My experiences with hotplates are that they work well but the more power you cut, the more tone you lose. So using one on a 50 watt head with maximum reduction results in some real tone lose.

Perhaps with a mere 20 watt head, the hotplate could be used to a lesser extent and thusly not suck as much tone

yeh,if I could find one in a local shop I'd definately put some heat in the tubes!

Im afraid with the TT I would have to use a pedal to get the distortion I like, heck I can do thet with my valve Jr. That Peavey tiny colossal or what ever is probably a good choice, I heard clips on youtube that was pretty impressive

As for modeling amps I have a spider II hd150 , I bought it soley for the "Spinal Puppet" or green metal channel...it was in my toneports software and I had to have that sound out of my computer and in an amp. and I love it...however nothing gets those speaker cones breathing like power tubes....thats where its at.

I would almost buy the Krank on looks alone....Im hoping thats not what the good folks at Krank are counting on.
