Anyone played the John Mayer Signature Strats?

I have to admit I am in love with the man, and his tone, and his chops. That aside I've found one close by for a good price. I've been wanting a good US made instrument anyway, and I think a Strat is more my style than the LPs I have been looking at.

Anyone played one? How's the neck? Word has it they are pretty thick... Are we talking SRV thick here? How does it feel?

Any opinions, from someone who has played one, would be much appreciated.

Re: Anyone played the John Mayer Signature Strats?

ok... I could basically care less about him, but for a strat, he has good taste :D

Love the stripe.

Uhh haven't played one.

Re: Anyone played the John Mayer Signature Strats?

Yeah I love the stripe. I'm checking out the model in shoreline gold w/ the stripe. Usually not my thing, but I think it works very well.

Re: Anyone played the John Mayer Signature Strats?

Once I picked up the Eric johnson strat, I'm done with my strat search. It's the perfect bolt on neck guitar for me.

Re: Anyone played the John Mayer Signature Strats?

The John Mayer strat is almost identical to the SRV strat, with different pickups. If that helps you any. I mean what more do you expect from someone with an SRV tattoo on their shoulder? :)

Re: Anyone played the John Mayer Signature Strats?

yeah it is almost identical to the SRV model, i played a whole ton of strats in the past two weeks before i finally bought the clapton model...blows the rest of them away in my opinion. i love the v-neck and midrange boost and tbx control gives you insane versatility

Re: Anyone played the John Mayer Signature Strats?

i liked the JM strat pretty well when i tried one at a GC last summer ... i liked the EJ alot more, so i bought one ... theJM really needed a set up badly ... the strings were a mile off the board ... i could imagine that it wouldve been pretty happenin if it played better .. the wood and pups tone were there

Cool stuff. I've played an EJ model and it was tops. I don't have that kinda scratch right now... one day though. I've got a line on a decently priced JM strat locally. I may not move on it though.

Re: Anyone played the John Mayer Signature Strats?

I don't think I've seen one.

Come to think of it, I've never seen the EJ Strat either. Maybe neither one really exists.

I didn't believe it, but then I felt the touch of one.

As the old song goes.
He touched me.... Eric Johnson's Stratocaster touched me... and Oh the Tone that floods my soul....

Re: Anyone played the John Mayer Signature Strats?

nice strats, with a wide-ish, fat neck profile. Wider than SRV.

Re: Anyone played the John Mayer Signature Strats?

I like them, because my main guitars are usually alder/rosewood US strats that happen to have a chunkier than usual neck. John Mayer has great taste in gear, because I just played his signature Martin, and it's so sweet it's not even funny.

If I had a JM strat, it'd be the sunburst, but it's unlikely because I already have a well worn sunburst strat I'm never selling. I don't like the racing stripe. It makes it too obvious that it's a John Mayer guitar. I love shoreline gold, but hate the stripe. Another thing I'm adamant about is having the trussrod hole on the headstock. I'll never buy another vintage Fender for that reason......I'm used to making adjustments at a whim, and can't stand having the trussrod buried in the neck pocket. That's just my quirk though.

More than the JM strat, that Martin signature is a thing of tonal beauty. I love that acoustic!

oh c'mon stephen ... you've *read* about it, havent you? ... and lots'a people talk passionately about what a profound effect it has had on *their* lives ... isn't that enough?

The JM martin is almost an EXACT carbon copy of the clapton martin and before he got his own sig model he played the clapton. So yeah, JM does have excellent taste in gear, lol.
