Anyone played the New RG550?

Re: Anyone played the New RG550?

I recently had a guitar damaged while travelling from the US to The UK and the LTD Eclipse and The RGT220 (Ash Body are in the US) thus requiring me to take them on the plane while the RG550 is available in a store local to me so it’s the easiest bet but they all have the appeal
The LTD is the most different and I have nothing like it in my collection (No ESP/LTD or LP shape) and looks cool but it’s the most expensive and in the US so increases the risk of damage in transit.
The RG550 is the safest bet as I’ve played it, it has a good pedigree, it’s made in Japan so is probably higher quality than the LTD and it’s local so no risk of damage in transit
The RGT220 specs wise is a great balance of the two, it’s a neck thru, Ash and HH configuration and it’s made in Japan so probably higher quality than the Korean LTD and it’s in “players condition” so don’t have to worry about it as much and it’s the cheapest by far but there’s the risk of damage during transit.

Re: Anyone played the New RG550?

Having the original edge is also huge plus on the 550 IMO.
I do like the rgt prestige a lot, but the edge-pro is a step down on toughness. New it wouldn't be a big deal to me because I'm fairly easy on trems (mainly talking about tightening things down doing strings and setups), but you never know what's up when buying used, but that goes for anything I guess.

Re: Anyone played the New RG550?

Neck dive is another reason I’m selling a xiphos so the BC Riches are off the list,
Played a Red Rg550 at Guitar Center and it played nice and sounded good, still getting used to the bolt on heel but now it’s pretty much MIJ Ibanez vs Korean LTD Eclipse.

Genesis all the way. Japan made and a classic.

Re: Anyone played the New RG550?

I'd like to have one of the Genesis RG550's, but their necks are too thin for me. I bought an RG655 Prestige that has the same neck dimensions, and it gave me bad hand-cramps. I tried to get used to it for months, but it never stopped cramping my hands up. The cheaper RG450's necks are only slightly bigger, but they don't bother me. I like the adventurous colors. I am SO sick of black and white guitars.

Nah it’s down to this three I think

Is that a topmount unrouted floyd or an odd shadow?

If unrouted its probably fake

Re: Anyone played the New RG550?

It's a regular routed OFR (pro/1000-series) on the eclipse. I'd really love to get one of these myself.

Hardtail and Seven String.
If I’m getting an ESP I think the eclipse is my favourite shape by them and would want it to be set neck or neck thru (just personal preference)
Just seeing a bolt on LP style looks weird to me

The bolters are thin singlecuts, something more like an SG/superstrat hybrid... not an LP.

There's plenty of 2000's setneck Eclipses that are more LPlike in the 800-1000 price range, but alas 90% are without Floyds so you have to look a bit for an FR version

Anyway, it's just what I found in like 2 minutes today. Shop around for a few days with a grand, you can get whatever you want

Appreciate you having a look, thanks man

Anyone played the New RG550?

it hurts me an i'm not even a LP fan.

But then a neck through strat gives me a little wood. :7:

I only dig bolt on LP if it’s like a Junior style with single bridge pickup
So out of these cast your vote (give me a order of preference so this guitar is my #1 then this is my #2 and this is my #3)
For example the RG220 is my #1, The EC-1000 FR is my #2 and the RG550 is my #3

Re: Anyone played the New RG550?

Tough choice huh? lol

The new guitars seem like the safer choice to me given that the rgt220 seller doesn't have a no-questions return policy.
However the rgt220 would be my #1 pick if it were mint vs mint out of all these.
I just know you'd like the original edge so much better though, but those 550 necks are super thin indeed. (OK for me, but)

The RGT is players condition but it’s always the cheapest by 100 dollars over the RG550 and 150 dollars cheaper than the EC-1000 FR
