Anyone played the New RG550?

Re: Anyone played the New RG550?

The RGT is players condition but it’s always the cheapest by 100 dollars over the RG550 and 150 dollars cheaper than the EC-1000 FR

Scratches and dings wouldn't bother me one bit, but you never really know about fret-level/grooving/stripped-screws/trem-stuff until you have it in your hands and do a setup and restringing.

Lower seller totals and no-returns always scares me when ordering guitars/amps online, in fact it basically is a veto for me, but plenty of people take chances and end-up fine. It sure is a beauty though.

Yeah it’s just scratches and dings which actually means I won’t be as worried about it

Re: Anyone played the New RG550?

I own an 1989 RG550 and a newer EC1000.
RG550 has a charm with its beautiful colors, its a great guitar with a slim neck. But the EC1000 feels like a higher quality axe for me. It's super smooth, sound sperfect, the action is rediculously perfect and it sounds like a monster. Even though the shorter scale, it sounds great with lower tunings.

If I didn’t fully explain what I want and what it will be used for, here it is.
24 frets
Minimal neck dive
High quality double locking trem
Made in Korea or japan
Good upper fret access
Good for death metal and thrash
Good for ambient clean stuff
Under 1100 dollars
HH or HSH configuration
Will be tuned to d standard and the trem will be abused to Dimebag levels

This seems like a steal to be honest despite it not being my preferred esp shape

Congrats with a great guitar. Let us know your thoughts when you get it :)

Had 2 550's. 2000 model in silver and the 2007 20th anniversary in black. Can't go wrong with them for any type of heavy or fast rock/metal playing. You may just want better pickups depending what the guitar comes with.

For my next d standard guitar I’ll save up for a USA Jackson WR1

Re: Anyone played the New RG550?

Tried two new RG 550s today.

Better than most of the trash in stores, surprisingly decent pickups....BUT it's pretty damn cheap feeling for an MIJ (they chose to not badge em Prestige with good reason) and the neck ISN'T an 80s or 90s wizard carve.
