Anyone put some time in on Celestion Heritage G1265s??

Let it B
NOT CREAMBACKS. Those I am familiar with.

I'm talking 12-65s with the big dust cap. Best cab I ever owned was an early 80s JCM800 with these in it.

I'm looking to replace my EVH G12Ms and H30s with higher headroom speakers, and contemplating trying these instead of the Creamback G12ms.

Also the WGS version ET65. I am not a fan of my Green Beret at all, but, the ET65 speaker seems fairly well received among those who know G12-65s.

Thoughts/Experiences welcome. :bigthumb:

I've been gassing for an old Marshall Cab with these. I have an 800 cab but its an 85 so they were on to the 75's then.

All I can offer up is a friend of mine compared the ET65's to the Celestions and said they were in the same ballpark but different, a little more bite.

I'm not loaded with dough either, but one thing I can say about speakers and pickups is that you've got to just buy and try.

Youtube clips help a little, especially in direct shootouts, but in the end you've got to own them.

In the past few years, I've just been searching CL for the popular Celestion models, then slowly replacing anything that has G12-75T's. Even the 75's aren't bad speakers, but replacing them with Creambacks, H30's, G-65's, Golds.....anything I can find cheap is what I plan to keep doing.

By doing that, I'll not only know what my absolute favorites are, but I'll also know which types of amps they all work best with.

I might have to call you next time I am loading a cab to work out a trade. For what/how I play the G12-75s seem to work perfect for me.

On a separate note. I need to pop open my Ampeg V4 cab. There are vintage Celestion speakers in there from the 70's but I will be damned if I know what they are. I took them out once when I bought the cab in the 80's to see what was in there.

I think 75T's get an unfair bad rap on guitar forums, probably because of the crunchy top end they associate with Marshall 1960 cabs.
However, they have nice low end.

G-65's are more smooth and clear, sorta like a 75 is a Custom 5, and a 65 is like a SD '59.

I have two 4x12 cabs with G12-65s from 1982 & 1983, a pair of the Heritage G12-65s and quads of G12m65 creambacks and G12T75s. Different flavors for different amps. Joneser is right on. The 65s are the smoothest of the three. They were originally made to take the edge off of Marshall's 2203 & 2204 amps and provide higher power handling than the G12M greenbacks. The Heritage versions are very close in tone. Construction between the two is also very close. My 65s from the 80's are very well broken in and...thirty plus years old. The Heritages are a little stiffer but not harsh at all. I wouldn't use them with darker sounding amps as they have more mids and a rolled off high end. I like the creambacks too as they sound very similar to a greenback with more bottom end grunt and more power handling. I've been running those with my JVM. Nice blend of vintage with balls. I realize many get nice tone with T75's but they're not my cup of tea. Very grainy and somewhat harsh when compared to the others side by side and as well when mixed in the same cabinet.

Thanks all.

I agree with Joe. Certain things you just gotta try with your own amp. The DSL green channel crunch is similar to a 2203/4...i.e. kinda bright, so was thinking the reduced highs of the 65s would be a good match.
