Anyone tried a JEM777VDY?

Hi,

Am considering the purchase of one of these guitars ... hey yellow is mellow!

Anyone tried comparing how this guitar sounds to a 'conventional' newer Jem, such as the VWH or FP? I know it comes with the thinner wizard neck, will this affect the sound in any way? - I don't want it to sound thin and brittle.

Thanks.

they have the same necks as the Black textured dk jems. the neck is very slim extremely easy to play fast. i love it for lead but its a little too thin for rhythm to my tastes. as to how the 777vdy compares well im not really sure. to me a jem is a jem, ive tried a few and they are all outstanding(even the 555 model which is rather cheaper than the others). the jem 7vwh is a beautifull guitar, i recently bought one.

DY = Desert Yellow, a colour that's been used on Jems before. You can get full specs at www.jemsite.com. Also check out http://jemsite.com/axes/htm_features/production.htm.

This guitar was made in 89-90. The body is nice. The neck profile is a bit different from the current 7 series, tho. I found it to be chucky in comparison to a modern Jem neck. I also don't like the pups in the older Jems compared to the current 7 series (Evo and Breed). The bridge is a very early Lo Pro, and is pretty good, tho the tuning stability isn't as good as the current Lo Pro.

Overall, it's a very cool looking guitar, and highly collectible, but performance-wise, I don't think is as good as current production spec's for new Jems.

You're not entirely correct, BigBazz. Do you mean BK instead of DK?? The BK neck profile is not the same as the 777 6 string models. The 555 is complete crap, and isn't even worth calling a Jem: It has inferior parts, quality control, sound, and playability. The current 7V is great, and I really like the neck, but I'm not the biggest fan of the alder body + the Evo, personally. It's great if you want to mimic Vai's tone, exactly, but I found it easier to create my own sound with the Breed-equiped 7D. Plus, I prefer the non-scalloped fingerboard ...
