Anyone tried Bare Knuckle Mules?

Re: Anyone tried Bare Knuckle Mules?

I played a Crawler & 2x P-90 loaded PRS on Wednesday night; that pickup definitely sounds like vintage with some extra push! Cleaned up beautifully, as well.

Re: Anyone tried Bare Knuckle Mules?

There are several of the Bare Knuckles pickups I want to try! The Black Dogs and Mules looks interesting. So does the Riff Raff and the Emerald. Here is the problem though -- I only have so many guitars. There are a lot of Duncans and Fralins that I want to try. And the Bare Knuckles ain't cheap for those of us in the U.S.

I hear so many good things about AlnicoIV magnets in a PAF style pickup that I'm going to give the Mules a try. When I can afford them that is :D

There are two viable alternatives, one cheaper, and one super-cheap. Fralin humbuckers are all Alnico 4 (unless you request 5) and they're not cheap but they are cheaper than Bare Knuckles.

The super-cheap option is just to get some Alnico 4 magnets and try them out in your Seths.

AN A4 magnet is more balanced than an A5 magnet. It has a little more power and slightly more treble, but on the whole makes for quite a balanced sounding pickup. That's what I'm led to believe anyway :D

The A4 is much smoother and has both less bass and treble than A5 (flatter EQ curve) -- and a little less output.
