Just purchased a Boss RV-5 used on ebay....should arrive mid to end of next week. I changed out the speaker with an Eminence Legend 1518 and replaced the tone switch with a pot. I am not a skilled electronics person and my soldering skills are very very basic (if that). Changing the switch to a pot is so easy it's unbelieveable. Costs less than $10 in parts and adds the flexibility needed for tone tweaking. The speaker changeout makes a huge difference and adds nearly 10#'s in weight.

Thanks for the Links! I already saw that video but hadn't seen the thread. I'm diffidently going to replace the switch to a pot. I read somewhere else to use a 500K audio pot, is that what you used? And when the pot is turned all the way to the left or turned all the way to the right, does it sound exactly like the switch did, or is it different?
