Anyone tried the pearly gates for tele?

Re: Anyone tried the pearly gates for tele?

The Lil PG for Tele and the BG-1400 are different pickups, I have tried (and own) a BG-1400 but I haven't tried the Lil PG for Tele yet...

Re: Anyone tried the pearly gates for tele?

The Lil PG is pretty new...as for the differences they are pretty different. The BG-1400 is a stacked coil pickup with 2 14.5-15k coils, alnico 5 rod magnets and a copper base plate and is made much like a traditional Telecaster lead pickup the Lil PG is a side by side bucker, with adjustible poles, 2 8.5ish k coils and an alnico 5 bar magnet and is made much more like a traditional PAF but in Tele size...

Re: Anyone tried the pearly gates for tele?

Thought I'd bump this from the archive...

Anybody try it or hear it yet? Anybody have any thoughts on what a good tele neck pup sized rhythm pickup would be for this?

(Quick note for those not clicking the link, I'm talking about the side by side coil PG, not the BG-1400 stack).

Man, I posted this so long ago Id almost forgot it. Apperently, nobody has sprung the cash to try it. Probably a qp would go well. I only have exp. with a broadcaster, aptr-1, and a lil 59 t. Havent liked any exept the aptr-1. (may be the guitar, though. (ash body, maple neck, mighty mite partscaster)
Prob the mighty mite part! warmoth from now on.

In theory, this sounds like a great match. The Pearly Gates and a Tele together sound like sonic genius. Surely somebody has tried this out????

Re: Anyone tried the pearly gates for tele?

I have a Lil PG for strat that's alnico loaded and wound rto around 12k. It sounds fantastic, but apparenlty, it's specs are pretty different from the T model.

It's too bad my money tree hasn't sprouted yet, I'm getting an idea for a alder tele with a maple neck rosewood board, pgn and lil pg-t bridge, qp in mid position.....GAS is so very addictive.

Re: Anyone tried the pearly gates for tele?

I just installed one in a Tele bridge with the Vintage Rail middle and Gibson Mini Humbucker neck pickup. I still have to put in the controls. I'll update this when It's done.

Sounds like a winning combination. Anxious to hear the results!

Ok, the Pearly Gates bridge for Tele is a winner! It ventures from the vintage sound to a Classic Rock and great Modern Country sound. I A/B'd it with the Duncan Vintage Stack and there is a very distinct departure. The EQ seems fairly level and it is definately an organic A5 sound. I plan to A/B it with a Lil 59 but from memory the Lil 59 has much more highs, twang and ceramic sizzle. Despite the 17K of the PG, it seems medium output and tame.

Ah, thanks for getting back. I've been waiting with baited breath.

Real question is, does it distinctly capture any of the Pearly vibe?

Actually yes, but I do not hear the issue of too much high end some complain about. It is definately not sterile and has some grind. Not ice picky or dull. At 17.6k, it is surprisingly not compressed. I still want to do a side by side with the Lil 59 but am satisfied that the PG is much better as it should be considering it is a CS model.

Re: Anyone tried the pearly gates for tele?

Very interesting and it uses alnico 5 magnets not ceramic unlike most Lil pickups. I wonder how much of the TWANG flavor remains...
